Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

Since you never said yet, is this guitar "the guitar" you've been looking for?

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

I guess we'll see once I get it back if it's "THE" one or not.

What I'm attempting here is to meld an exotic wood strat (which I love)
with a Yngwie scalloped neck(which I love)
and the pickups and wiring configurations of a Jem(which I love)

So, short of dropping a loaded jem 'guard into a strat, this might do the trick.

Just to ad insult to injury, my local shop got in a Fender Custom Shop Jimi strat in white that just KILLS me! Giod, it's almost perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wahlah!
Well, ALMOST done......

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11...tratboy005.jpg

...just waiting an the few last parts to arrive, but even FatBoy likes it!
(all 23 pounds of him)
I think it's going to be a nice guitar. The Duncan's are definitely the right choice for me- they are fantastic coupled with the evolution in the bridge.
Warm, fat, round....kinda like FatBoy. I'm happy so far.

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

Sorry if my digits offend you Damo....
Here's a toe-less pic with a little more tetail:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11...tratboy001.jpg

Evolution in the bridge
Duncan DuckBuster in the middle
Duncan Lil 59'r in the neck

I had the 250k pots replaced with 500k, which really bring out the harmonics on the doublecoils. I would suggest if anyone here puts humbuckers in a strat to replace the stock single coils make sure you also switchout the pots or you'll miss out on the natural harmonics of the new hotter pickup. The 4th position (bottom being first) is an incredible Strat "between" sound, the second position is a little hot due to the Evo and not much use. 5th position (neck) is extraordinary- damn thing sounds like Allmans' Bros. slide leads!
And of course, the 1st or neck position is to me what a guitar SHOULD sound like with the Evo.

Well, just waiting for the final "touches" to arrive. I'll post a final pic then.

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

I'm going to join in on heaping the praises on this. That's a really nice, classy looking guitar.

How do you find the scalloped board to play on? Especially for slides, I've been wondering that...it must take a bit of getting used to.

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

First, thanks for the kudos- but that's not why I did this. I had no idea how this would turn out- just thought I'd show you guys each step as it happened. This could have really SUCKED ( never mind the money spent) but it seemed to turn out pretty cool. I'm laughing because compared to the Desert Yellows, Shocking Pinks, Salmon Pinks and all the other finishes I have it's the most "conservative" of them all!

Hopefully, this can serve as a map if you ever want to radically customize a Strat-type guitar in the future. I wish I could post sound bites so you could hear it.

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

FINAL UPDATE:

Well, this project is now over. It was fun and the guitar turned out nice.
A final story for you- the guitar tech who did all this is a long time friend and
since this started he's been calling this guitar a "Jeffocaster" because it's busting on me and it's a little different from his normal requests (my name is Jeff). so it's been a running joke -"...so, what do you want to put it that Jeffocaster next?..."

So I thought I'd give you guys a last smile with this project...........

*deleted*

See you around,
