Re: john petrucci musicman vs and ibanez???

I used to think EBMM JP's were ugly, but then I realized the angles EBMM took the stock photos at were horrible!

The guitar looked MUCH better when I watched the G3 2005 DVD.
That and I would never buy one without the JP inlays - I just hate the fretboard (look wise) other than that.

Re: john petrucci musicman vs and ibanez???

let say
teh ebmm JP is all custom designed for JP's hands and playstyle

and not everyone has similar arm and hand shape like him so not every one would find it comfortable, atlease i dont find it comfortable caz u need the guitar hung up high to get use of the contour cuts

and an ibanez JP is more open to different people

I think I'm gassing for a JP7 now more than an RG 20th...

saw those teaser pics and I'm very intrigued...

But can someone explain to the this Petrucci custom bridge?

Other than the piezo, does it float more like a Floyd or a Standard Strat?

Ive got a JP6 and it floats and feels just like a floyd. It flutters brilliantly, but doesent have the pull up range of an Edge.

Re: john petrucci musicman vs and ibanez???

The vibrato system on the petrucci guitar isn't a locking one. How can it stay in tune when used? Surely once the strings are dragged through the nut it's physically impossible for them to return to original zero point accurately. I also can't imagine the wound and unwound strings will pull back through the nut by the same amount, so chords will never work after any whammy playing. I watched a demo at the NEC music show last year on the EBMM stand and this awesome dude was playing heavy metal lead style stuff on a Petrucci 7 string which looked fantastic! The demo made me want one but i noticed he never used the vibrato system and infact the bar wasn't even attached... Was this to avoid embarassment?

If so, what's the point having these types of vibrato systems at all - on any guitar?!?

Does anyone here have one who can clarify for me?

Ta very much

Re: john petrucci musicman vs and ibanez???

^^^^

Those are the kind of questions I'd want answered.

Not to diss EBMM of course, but just for some more information so I can make an educated purchase next time I decide to buy a guitar...

If it doesn't work well with very heavy trem abuse, I'd probably just order the new JCustom 7 string (which looks BEAUTIFUL) from Ikebe...I saw Major Tom's post and $1850 or so for a new imported J Custom? Sounds like a steal to me...

Re: john petrucci musicman vs and ibanez???

I own an EBMM JP6... It's my favorite guitar

I also own an RG3120 and RG1570.... I have pretty small hands so the EBMM JP neck feels much more comfortable to me than Ibanez RG necks... I also like the radius.... it's not as thin as RG necks but it's thin enough for very fast playing.... I also LOVE the piezo system... The JP is a very warm sounding guitar, has a really big, fat sound. It doesn't look as cool as Ibanez Prestige RGs though.. but it sure makes up for it with TONE! Most people I know don't really recognize the power of the JP6 until they hear it plugged in and they turn their heads =P

but of course.... the JP's floating trem is locked by the schaller locking tuners instead of a locking nut.... I m amazed that it even stays in tune after some major tremolo abuse cuz there some fenders with schaller locking tuners and they don't stay in tune with the slightest trem usage... but of course, in terms of staying in tune even after MASSIVE, INSANE, DESTRUCTIVE tremolo abuse...... nothing beats the RGs (and of course, JEMs)

that's strange because everyone i've tried has sounded pretty thin and definitely not what i would consider 'warm' or 'fat'. to each their own i guess.
