I've been wondering myself. The EBMM Petrucci really looks (and seems like) a killer guitar though I've never touched one. I did own a Stingray bass at one point and it was top.

They dont kill my Ibanez RG1550 mate, in fact my top end Fender Strat doesnt touch my RG1550 or RG1527.

My EBMM JP6 doesn't get a whole lot of play time, if that tells you anything.

It's not a bad guitar by any means, but it's just not quite my cup of tea.

Ive never played an Ibanez JPM, but the EBMM JP neck is very different to any ibanez neck ive ever played! The profile is quite a bit fatter, some love it, some hate it. Musicman's are excellent guitars, very well built, although I did sell my EB JP, when I got my JEM!

I love my JP6 with Piezo - sounds, looks, and plays great (as I'm sure you know, the EBMM necks are to die for - considered by many to be the perfect neck). Build quality is top notch as are the materials utilized. The trem is one of the best available - floats like a floyd, has a great feel, and the piezo elements are absolutely amazing.

I'm hoping to mod it soon installing a push/pull in the tone to allow splitting of the pups. I believe that would make the guitar much more versatile (6 pup options instead of only 3) and thus I think I'd play the guitar much more.

High end Ibanezs are comparable though. In the end, it depends on the features (piezo, locking trem, etc.) you're after along with the style that you like more.

I played one, and was quite dissaponted, immediately. Played like crap. Maybe it was a bad one, I don't know.

The guitar may be better in every way than an Ibanez, but I will never know because I can't get past how ugly they are.

I'd take a higher end EBMM over a higher end Ibanez any day of the week. Just my opinion.

As Ayrton said though, the design of it isn't the best looking IMO. Take an RG body and put a EBMM style neck (with Ibanez headstock of course; that EBMM blob headstock isn't prett at all) on it and THEN you have something.

I'd say go with the EBMM. I've owned a JPM90 and an RG8670 J-Custom and the EBMM JP is somewhere between the two. The fretwork isn't quite as good as the RG8670, but overall playability the EBMM is in the same ballpark.

At the end of the day a lot of it comes down to personal preference, as the EBMM JP is a fantastic guitar, but buy what you want.
