JPMM piezo system

Just received my JPMM this morning around 7:00am and I really like
the playability of the guitar a lot. I'm really impressed with the trem
system and the speed of the neck. The neck pup is really sweet
sounding, but I noticed that the D-Soninc is rather "bassy" compared
to my other Ibanez guitars. It's different so I guess that's cool for
different tones. It was set up with 10 guage strings and it feels like
I'm playing on bass strings to my fingers. One thing is did like about
the 10 guage strings was how much the guitar resonates when you hit
a chord. Really nice sustain as a result. I've used
9's for the past 24 years so they are really different in feel. Can someone
please explain how the pickup configuration/knob controls works on the
guitar for me? I only have the 3 way selector and not the push/pull pot
installed on a piezo equipped JPMM. When both swithces are pointed down
my bridge pup barely gets a signal and is almost completely silent. Is this
normal on a dirty amp channel or do I have some issues that I have to deal
with down the road? Also, which input jack to you guys use for your dirty channel?
I'm assuming that everyone that owns one plugs their's into another amp
for the dry channel, but I'm just guessing.
Everything works fine when the top toggle is in the middle and up positions
as far selecting between the humbuckers. Just when they are pointed down
together am I having the shortage issue. Does the top switch control the
piezo system? My guitar did not come with a manual so I'm at the mercy of
trolling jemsite and experienced uses that own one. Thanks for the info!

Re: JPMM piezo system

You can plug into either jack to play magnetic pups, but only the mono jack allows you to use either the pickups or the piezo through the same signal. The stereo jack will accept a stereo plug which you can split later to send one output to an amp and one to a PA, for example. The mono output jack allows you to run the pickups and piezo. You just can't split the signals. I like running mono out if I'm just jamming around and I've never really had the need to do the stereo thing.

The top selector switch on the upper horn controls the piezo. In the up position, it's just piezo. In the middle, it's piezo and magnetic. In the bottom position, it's off completely. Your 3 way switch on the bottom of the guitar is for the neck position humbucker, the inner coils of the humbuckers, and then the bridge humbucker. Keep in mind that if you use the piezo and leave the guitar cable plugged in you can drain your battery and that will make the guitar sound whacky.

Enjoy! It's definitely a great sounding guitar.

Re: JPMM piezo system

A few more questions then. Which input is the mono jack when I
flip the guitar face down and look at the back, and why does the
guitar seem to switch volume controls/knobs when the switches
are in different positions? That might sound strange but it happens
on my guitar. Obviously I have never used this type of system before,
and being unable to find a manual on how to operate the system leaves
with plain experimenting which sucks. Have you messed with the bass/mix/
treble settings on the actual guitar before? Do you use a phillips to adjust
the settings? Also, could you please explain what each knob does within
the system.
Thanks for any additional information you can supply me.

I appreciate the help but nothing is coming up
after I click on your link for some reason. All I
see is the Music Man logo and that's it.

Re: JPMM piezo system

So when I have both toggle switches pointed down
in the bottom position, the piezo is not active correct?
I am barely getting a signal at the bridge positon and
it sounds really chinsy for some reason. Is this normal
or does the D-Sonic pup do this on everyones' JP6?
Is there a wiring diagram for the push pull pot that I
can find also? Thanks for all the help. This guitar is
truely the best I've ever played. I wish I would have
discovered Music Man a lot earlier in my playing days.

Right, the piezo is off when the top switch is down. If your pickup selector is down, then the D-Sonic (bridge) is selected. If you're getting a low or weird signal, then either something is wrong or you need to try a fresh battery. A bad battery can make the guitar sound out of sorts. I don't know where you can find the wiring diagram, but you don't have a push/pull if you have the regular JP model. Only the BFRs come with a push/pull which switches on both humbuckers.
