Question

Just a quick question for the Les Paul guys...

Basically put, are the Japanese Epiphones any good? I've heard they are decent, but there again, people say the regular ones are too

As anyone got any hands-on experience, and how do they compare to say... an actual Gibson Les Paul Standard?

The guys that have them seem to love them, I thought the Elitists were discontinued though. I played one, it was nice but not a Gibson.

Re: Just a quick question for the Les Paul guys...

Thanks 'Cid.

The one I've been looking at is the one with the openbook headstock that's apparently made to the same spec as a USA Standard. I was struggling to believe it'd be the same thing, but if it comes into the same ballpark then I'll defintely snap it up considering its half the price of a used Standard.

I'm intrigued on that one too Gurj.

I dont know about all lawsuit Ibanez LPs, but the ones I've seen have all had bolt on necks. Personally, that's a deal breaker for me. I never saw any Epis with the correct Gibson headstock, do you have any links, I'd be interested in seeing one.

Have you looked into Edwards at all. I have one that I like quite a bit, it;s a shame I'll more than likely be selling it.

Check these numbers out on the bay: 160168983779, 200163920429, 320171804949

Basically I'm after a decent-ish LP for under £500.

That first one looks nice, but I always wonder when people say "made to the same specs as the American...". If it's made the same, why is it sold for so much less? Also, why would a Japanese made guitar in a Japaneses market say "Made in Japan" in English? Im not saying it's fake or anything, just wondering out loud.

I've been also thinking about trying a LP one more time. I've had a custom and a studio and neither time have a gelled with them. But something in me wants me to like them! So I might try a lawsuit Ibby if one comes up. Even thought about an Edwards, but I've never played one before.

Hey is the elitist the one with the "officially" chambered body, and the tummy contour?

If it is I played one, thought it was comfier than a Les Paul (sitting down). I don't think I'd buy one, I think I'd lean toward a Washburn if I wanted a comfier Les Paul. But the one I played looked pretty nice.

Side note - my Dad hated it. But he's got the real thing.

I've been thinking that Danny, which is what I put on a couple of threads recently, but I want to go and try it first (heard the quality varies greatly.) So it's just a case of waiting for one to come up locally. If I can snag one that's reasonably priced I'll definitely do it.

Yup I was way off. I was thinking of the Les Paul Ultra. The Elitist is more like a standard Les Paul. Looks like your streak remains alive elcid. Have you tried the Ultra? (and what did you think?)
