Just Tried a RG3120

h*ll
o all...

I just checked out a RG3120 at my local music store, I think this is the first one in Singapore. Was an RG3120VV, I really liked the finish very very classy. Ibanez did a good job with the Flamed Maple top...Liked it a lot. I didn't really like the neck though, not saying that it wasn't good, but just that I'm a little too used to my neck profile on my jem77fp. A little too thin for my liking, reminded me of the profile on my 90ham.

Sound wise was pretty nice, I'm not a big fan of the neck pickup though, it was a little too muddy on the high gain settings. The bridge pickup..I like!

Very pleased with the neck and fret work, very clean, very comfortable for fast runs and stuff like that. Overall very nice guitar for the price!

I also checked out the RG XL...NOW THAT REALLY IMPRESSED ME! I was at first, really put off by the extended scale...haha! But the sound is really really good, clear clear lows and crisp highs, what a 7 string should be!

Chris.

Yeah, that's a great guitar. *Some of us envy your access to a VV 3120. *

A guy at a local shop told me that TW is being discontinued...any word on that, anybody? *I don't really trust the guy's word, since he called the 3120 a "USA custom shop."

Looks like they've got some really cool new RGs on the ibanez.co.jp site... the RG970XL looks like a 6-string version of the 1077XL, but with flat finishes. Pretty sweet!

I agree with your views on the 3120... I tried it too, and thought it was a bit over priced and overrated... didn't feel special to me at all... wonder why...

Hey... Lets meet up again soon!

Hey Chris, i've tried that 3120 too. i dislike both the humbuckers in there- there's no clarity (wonder if Duncans in there will help cure the tone). i was quite impressed with the S1540, i think the Quantums are good humbuckers. i would have bought one but i'm too affected by the 'W' inlay, it's outright ugly...
