Little-guitar Question

I have this tiny guitar, the mini-strat kind like steve vai had, and I was wondering if I could throw some light strings on there and tune it up an octave, what gauge would I need?

Re: Little-guitar Question

Tread carefully! My only experinces of those guitars are quite bad. I played one it would not stay in tune no matter what I did to the guitar! It may have been a string issue, but I dont know. If you were to tune it up an octave I'd guess the guitar would react prity badly to the added tension, no matter how light the strings were!

Re: Little-guitar Question

I figured that kind of tension wouldn't play well with the cheap neck, so I may just tune it up a 4th or a 5th. I just wanted something that was a little different.

Thanks.

Re: Little-guitar Question

I used to have a Mini-V from Bradley that I tuned to "A" with regular strings. I want to say that the distance from the bridge to the nut was roughly the same as the distance to the 5th fret on my Ibanez, and that was my logic. Now, was that logic right? I dunno. It had crappy tuners, but seemed to stay in tune much better once I went higher on the tuning. I like the idea of the octave guitar, but you'd probably have to do a good bit of experimetation to figure out what are the best gauges.

Re: Little-guitar Question

Usually those small scale guitars are tuned to A
Samick makes decent small scale guitars.
