Looking for some parts to help a friend out

Hiya Everyone!

A cowrker of mine bought a guitar from a so called "friend" a few months back and paid the guy $200 for it. He brought it over to the house last night to play in our jam session, and when he pulled the guitar out of the case, I nearly had a heart attack! And not in a good way, either.

The jerk that sold him the guitar told him it was a fender strat. Well, it has a Fender Squier II neck, and that is where the decent parts of the guitar ends.

The body looks like some sort of frankenstein type strat that was at one time routed for a floyd rose. The guy put a piece of black plastic inside the hole and 2 big silver screws in it to cover it. It looks horrible!

The guy also mounted a strat-looking pickguard on the guitar. On the lower horn, the pick guard sticks out over the top of the horn, hitting your hand when you try to access the higher frets.

I can't believe someone would actually sell another person this piece of junk.

I am looking for a used squier body that i can add his neck to, and make a decent guitar for him to learn on. I will also need a loaded pickguard from a squier, and a cheap bridge to go with it. Hell, I guess I need a loaded body ;p

I can't pay a mint for parts, so I will take what I can get. The parts don't have to be in perfect condition, they just need to work ;p

Special thanks in advance to anyone out there that can help. I will try and borrow the guitar and take some pics so you guys and gals can see how bad this poor guy got ripped off.

Thanks again!

Check the bay for a "New York Pro" strat body. You can pick them up loaded for under $50 and it is solid alder.

Wow, what a screwjob! $200 nowadays can get you a pretty serviceable NEW entry-level instrument.

There should be a guitar lemon law, seriously.

MY question is: If the guitar is such a basket case, how come your buddy BOUGHT it? Was he blindfolded as he handed over the money or was the instructed to not open the case till he left?

He didn't know what he was buying. The guy that sold it to him told him how good of a deal he was getting, so he bought it.

He has no previous experience with guitars at all.

you can get decent parts and inexpensive fair playing guitars on the 'Bay. those $99 squires aren't bad for the money for someone who is getting started.
i wish you guys happy hunting and good luck!

Honestly, if say 3 of you can chip in $33 each, you might as well buy him one for xmas or something.

Here's hoping he's not a Jew eh?

Is there anything salvagable on this guitar? If so, I'd pull them off, before the sacrificial pyre.
