LTD vs. Jackson
Hi guys...my first post here. I have been kinda a frequent visitor, and finally took the plunge and signed up. I have already discovered the search feature, but didn't see my answer, so hope this is cool...
I wondered if anyone out there has a picture of a Jackson King V or KVX10 sitting near the LTD DV8 Mustaine. Someone said they are bigger than the Jackson V.
I hope to fit in around here, but I fear my first strike will be not owning any Ibanez's...
But if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it greatly, and I am interested in both the DV8-R and the KVX 10. Just can't find anyone that has both...lol

I have a feeling you're the same guy that posted on the Megadeth boards about this... he asked the same question. As I replied there, I will here just in case you're someone else. I was taking pix of my doubleneck for a friend, so i lined up a KVX10 and the LTD DV8R for you to compare while I had the camera out. You can see the DV8 is larger in body. The wings are farther apart, and the guitar is generally taller because the body is bigger. It is the same scale though...
Hope these pix help you out. I took one pic with them stacked in front of each other for a direct comparison for ya'... whichever you end up getting, they are nice. Though i am partial to the DV8...

I tell you what...before I bought my EBMM Petrucci, the Randy Rhoads RRV was the best guitar I owned, including a JEM7VWH, a JEM7DBK, a UV777BK, a
Gibson Les Paul Classic
, and an ESP
Stephen Carpenter
model.
If you can deal with the smaller size (and it's still a big guitar, trust me), go with the Rhoads.

It just seemed...I dunno. Sterile. And very tight, even for a 25.5" scale. Like bending wasn't just difficult, it was PAINFUL.
The alder body w/maple neck-through was just too damn bright for me as well...I get the feeling it would sound good in Drop-C or really low tunings, but seeing as how I just tune to Eb, it was just too screamy and trebly...plus, I thought the pickup arrangement would be good, but it just took away the creaminess factor of a
neck humbucker
and replaced it with a harsh, thin-sounding single coil.
Definitely a case of where it was very well suited for the artist that designed it (which I suppose is the point, after all), but not me, as opposed to the
EBMM Petrucci
, which is pretty much perfect, and what I have looked for in a guitar for a few years now.

Is that doubleneck one of Dave's personal guitars he was selling a while ago, or were they a
production model
?

Dont' you find the RR models hard to play with, I found it was incredibly unbalenced, the neck felt nice though. Out of those two V's I prefer the Jacksons, I'm not a big fan of LTD or ESP.
And also megamunky or course you welcome here, you don't have to have an Ibanez, it doesn't say anywhere in the sign up rules that you do

It's neither... Dave's Doubles were selling for much more than i was willing to pay..lol But they aren't production models either. The doubleneck King V is one of the rarest of the
Custom Shop
. Aside from Dave's there are actually only 2 neck-thrus and one bolt-on that were made. I have both neck-thru's. The bolt-on was burned in a house fire in Japan. (Pagoda fire?)
There's also a guy online who claims to have one, but it's a fake from the ****-factory Ed Roman runs in Vegas. The guy never posts headstock photos because it isn't a real Jackson. He started saying he bought Dave's black one, but I know Dave's black one...the hardware isn't even the same.
The one in the photo was made for someone else, but they ebay'd it and I snagged it. The first black one I got was identical to Mustaine's and made for me in '97.

I've never liked the RR's. At least with the King V, it'll stay upright when you let it go. The RR just wants to fall forward with that bottom wing missing and not resting against your leg for stability... lol

Go for the Jackson KV2T. You'll be way more happy with that than the ESP DV8.

DUDE!!! It's your long lost twin! Or your schizo "other half"....he must be something like that if he knows what you'll like. Best advice try them both...I love them both. If you buy on what people tell you is best for you, and they don't know you, you'll get whatever's comin' to ya' for it... lol
It's a good excuse to visit some shops. Try everything... Hell if it's a hondo V with a broken Kahler and 3 tuners, but it's good for you, then play the hell out of it... just ask someone for your own opinion first...
