Manuel Rodriguez Model "B" Guitar

I went to Pat's Desert Music today, out here in Las Vegas, NV, and could NOT get my hands OFF of the Manuel Rodriguez Model "B" guitar!!!! The tone was so ASTOUNDING and I just wanted to play that guitar forever! The action was a little high, but that was okay, because it's a nylon string guitar, so it's easy to play with a little bit of high action. The guitar is HANDMADE in Spain, and the one that I played was the LAST ONE made there!!! THAT exact guitar was at retail price of $899, and the guys there told me they could sell it to me for $499.... The saving begins! Anyways, the ALSO told me that now, the guitars are going to start being FACTORY MADE!!! In CHINA!! For the SAME RETAIL PRICE!

If you've ever played a MR guitar, you know how amazing the quality is.. And now that they are being manufactured and produced in China, the quality is going to be flushed down the toilet. I'm so disappointed!!!

Grrrr!!

Has this happened to any other guitars that anyone knows of??

Not necessarily. Blueridge guitars are made in China and they receive a lot of praises. Ibanez Artcores are made there too and the build quality on them is very good (although there are inconsintencies here and there). Rich has also complemented on the quality of the Artcore Customs at NAMM (then again the models that go to NAMM are the best of the best...). It mostly depends on the person working on the guitar.

My friend is a monster classical player, he has a MR. He liked it at first, but now he hates it, and considers it a toy. I think he has an Allambra and I forget what his main one is, but it was around $5,000, but it sounds amazing.

I agree with eldcid. I played both and I'd say that I prefer Alhambra's sound ... But hey, it's just for my ears and hands.
BTW, I own an Alhambra electro acoustic and have an amazing tone.

Do you know why he hates it now??
Cause I'm considering purchasing THAT guitar as my next, and if I'm just going to hate it later on, I don't want to purchase it in the first place, ya know?

Re: Manuel Rodriguez Model "B" Guitar

He had alot of issues with the neck for starters. Then he just realized it didn't sound that good. This was long before he bought the Allambra and his other expensive one. ( I want to say it's a Kenny Hill or something, it's someones name and the guy only makes a few guitars a year).

Re: Manuel Rodriguez Model "B" Guitar

Well, no matter what I'm only going to buy the BEST for what I want to play and where I want to go. I will definitely play the guitars that I take into consideration LOTS of times before I actually PURCHASE SOMETHING.... I don't want to end up like your friend!!

Thanks for the heads-up though!

Katrina,
I just called him and he said that if you aren't going to spend a ton of money look at the Yamahas. He liked those better than the Manny Rodriguez.
I know you need to get what you like, I'm just trying to pass his knowledge on to you.

Re: Manuel Rodriguez Model "B" Guitar

Thanks for everything elcid!!!! That's really nice of you to spew forth your information.. Ummm.... Well, I'm pretty much broke from buying my last guitar.. If I wasn't 15, and I was living by myself, I'd DEFINITELY be at the "starving musician" stage of my life... I have to save up a LOT (and it will take LOTS of time!! haha!!) until I get my new guitar....

Thanks for everything, man! I'll refer back to this thread when the time comes!

Re: Manuel Rodriguez Model "B" Guitar

Yes, I noticed that the action was extremely high on this guitar, but it still felt so easy to play.. The sixth string was a little tough up by the 16th fret, but it seemed like the tone really made up for everything!
