Maverick JR4
Has anyone else here got a Maverick JR4??
If so, what do you think of it?
I got mine 2nd hand on evil-bay for about £130 or something.
I've modded it with various things & still am.
With EMG 81/85 pickups in, tuned down to Drop-B with .013-.068 strings, it sounds like pure hell!!!!!!!! Muhahahahahaha.
It was a pain filing the saddle, tuner & nut slot of the 6th string so the .068 actually fits, but it's all good.
Anyways, anyone got 1?

Re: Maverick JR4
I'm not fond of this guitar or the manufacturer. Not because of any construction issues or anything like that. It's pure business. Wanna know what the JR4 stands for? James Root #4 from Slipknot. He actually has the first one of these built. Signed and dated on the back from the dude that makes these things. Sent it to Jim, he checked it out. Actually played it on stage a couple of times. But it wasn't really for him. He told them that. So what do they do? Release it with another name? Nope. They call it the JR4. Pretty weak if you ask me...
Jims guitar plays pretty well. But I'm not too fond of these guys....

Cool.
If i see it again on evil-bay, i'll PM you the link if you want cos although it's uout of my range; it may not be out of yours.
Do you know Jim's tech- Martin Connors?
Dude is HUGE! I never saw him next to Jim, but he must be at least 6'5". I wanted to get his as well as Jim's autographs when Stone Sour played the London Astoria (i got Josh's) but they disappeared.
I think Jim was bursting for a ****! Lol.
EDIT- I gotta say that IMO the JR4 plays excellent. I've set it up & done soe mods so it isn't "off the shelf", but with my mods it is great. I love the tone & with the EMG's it kicks metallic ass!!!!!!
I can play on it as fast, smoothe & clean as my RG1550. Ideally i'd want number 2 of 2 of Jim's actual guitar cos it's
Alder bodied
i think, with
Ebony board
.
It doesn't have active EMG's though which is dumb if it IS Jim's guitar.
But i can say 100% hand on heart, it plays better than any Fender USA of High End Gibson i've played, which DO include the really expensive ones & also a Flying-V like Jim was playing on the Astoria gig.

Re: Maverick JR4
Rivera,
Yeah, I know Martin. Very cool guy. Great tech too. I actually filled in for him last summer in Europe and for the first part of the Family Values tour. Martin was busy with the Black Eyed Peas. So I got the gig for a short time. After doing his job I can say this, I have ALOT of respect for touring guitar techs. Unless you've done it, you have no idea how much work they really do...
As for the one on evilBay, Jim has only had 1 that I know of. It's silver with an Ebony board. It does have EMG's in it but Martin put them in. They didn't come with EMG's. It has some kinda
Floyd Rose
copy trem too...
It's a pretty cool guitar but I don't think I'd go so far as to say it's better than any other guitar. Course there are always exceptions. I've played many Gibsons that sucked. Not so many Fenders. QC is better at Fender. But that V that Jim played? I've played that V many times. That one is smokin'! Best V I've ever put my hands on...

Re: Maverick JR4
Yeah it's enough of a pain in the ass changing 1 guitar's strings, yet alone 5 or 6 like Jim must use!!!
He does Josh's too with Stone Sour i believe (??).
He aint a bad player either. He played some blues-rock licks on Jim's strat he played @ Brixton in 2003 i think.
I actually think that was a fake on e-bay then cos it didn't have a trem, and it was black instead of silver........
It came with a certificate of authenticity but it sounds NOTHING like you described.
Lucky i didn't take out a loan!!!!!
The V i played was off the shelf & not set up so maybe that was an unfair test.
Jim played it well with solo's & stuff. Considering how bogged down they are in Slipknot with room for expression, it was great to see him shredding his ass off!
Josh threw 1 of his RG's into the crowd & i tought Jim was gonna do the same with the V so i stuck my hands out but he declined (batsard! Lol).
