That basically sounds like a great system. One of the things I don't like about many double locking systems, is that you have to cut the ball ends of the strings. Maybe this is a psychological thing on my part, as many pro players use it all the time, but it just freaks me out.
I have an Ibanez S, for instance, with a ZR trem. And there's like 4-5 kilograms of tension on the high E which is held tight by one of those small vice systems. And there's only 2 mm, or so, of the string in the vice! I much prefer other systems.

I see what you mean. John Petrucci also has it in a place that I would find to be very unpractical. As you can see in the pic below, it's right under the pickups.
It would be so easy to accidentally touch it whilst playing.
