My first paint job!
Hey guys!! how it going! Im finally embarking on the journey that is: Painting my guitar. So fun has it been. It sucks getting the paint off. If you all want to know what guitar im painting? Its my
fender
squier
with the sustainer. Im painting it white. I know this sounds noobish or much like what a novice would say. But i have never done this and it is appearing to be pretty fun. Here is what the guitar used to look like:
sorry i dont have a picture with the sustainer. I lost it somewhere.
But now after the paintjob, you can imagine what it looked like stripped from the paint:
now the back:
i even felt like removing the logo so people think it used to be a fender(unless they play it, that really helps tell the difference):
note: if anyone wants to know why there is a huge rectangular hole where the input jack should be. well, thats where the sustainer switches go. the circuit board is that exact shape.
update: the paint smeared a little since im spray painint the guitar. no worries, im going to sand it off and re spray it.

Re: My first paint job!
why'd you take out all the wood, you could have just routed a little and put the switches in without a cover.
Also if you aren't hanging the guitar it helps a lot since you dont need to each side separately.

Well i didnt put the sustainer in, some luthier from down the street did. I did hang the guitar with a wire hanger, i just set it flat on the ground for pictures. I read the directions on project guitar about the wire hanger.

IMO never use a wire hanger, otherwise you might end up with a partially painted body that looks like this:
After that I fabricated a stand
Nice job on painting though. It's a big project to undertake. The more you do it, the better you'll get.

Seriously, Ranger X is right. always find a way of securly hanging your guitar. I have seen a pro drop a guitar in a similar manner.
Is that yours Ranger X?

Re: My first paint job!
Yep it's mine. I'm no pro, but I take pretty good care of my projects...this one was a freak accident, I don't even know how it fell...just came back in the garage one day and there it was on the (concrete) floor with that giant crack in it. I think I could fix it with a glue/water/sawdust mixture, but then I'd also have to redo the
paint
too...too much work, haha. Might be a fun spring project though. Sorry for the off topic post.

It is finished!! Here is the long awaited(more like 2 days wait) finished version!!
Now with some strings!
note. yes,i know, the spot with the switches looks real crappy IMO. But i like it! My first
white
guitar and it was free!! I just need to screw around with the action because its too high. But overall. Its awesome!

Re: My first paint job!
What type of paint did you use?
I've read that "Paint your own guitar to factory Finish" book thing that is all about laquer. But the whole waiting at least 2 months before you're allowed to finish it, 1 year before the laquer actually cures completely and rubber (like most guitar stands are made out of) put me off a bit.

i just used ordinary spray paint from the store. I think the brand was Color Place. I had to strip the paint and the finish till it was bone dry wood, then sprayed primer, then the white. Had to put two coats but that was enough. The thing about spray paint is, is you are gonna need to put a finish on, or it will fade. Its whats happening with me. but i couldnt afford anymore stuff to add a finish. I like the feel tho.
