My latest Strat is together
Finally finished up my latest Strat and I am quite pleased.
Started out as a 2005 Highway One, however it now sports a Warmoth
birdseye maple neck
with
reverse headstock
, Hendrix Voodoo Caster pickguard, custom shop 68' left hand stagger pups, and locking tuners. I polished out the satin nitro finish to mild shine as well. I think it came out very nice.
Attaching a couple of pics.

beauty, although as far as color I'd prefer surf green or daphne blue.

very nice man!
Question for you..
did you clear coat the headstock?
I only ask cuz i can see the outline of your logo on the headstock
and wondered it if its like that even "after" clearcoating.
Nice color too!

Re: My latest Strat is together
Fender used to put the waterslide over the finish up until the 70's I believe, and the custom shop still does. I finished the neck with Tru Oil and then put the logo on. I went over the logo with a couple of coats of oil to give it some protection, but still have that vintage look. The flash makes it stand out more than it really appears.
Here is what the decal looks like after 50 years on this 56' Strat.

Re: My latest Strat is together
I prefer it when I can see the outline of the decal. Makes it look more DIY. Everything has to be "perfect" nowadays, and this kinda thing reminds me of a time when things were simpler "guitar-wise".

Re: My latest Strat is together
Fantastic looking...
It's sounds like a stupid question but would love to know how much improvement there is in the playability considering it started life as a HW 1?
I just ask because I tried a few highway 1s but no joy for me regarding playability.

I like the bridge pickup slanting the right way, finally!
Looks great... So, when will the scallops be done?

Re: My latest Strat is together
How much difference in sound did it make swapping the pickups? How would you describe the difference in sound?

Re: My latest Strat is together
Chimp, I have another Hwy 1 and the neck was giving me trouble staying in adjustment, so it is at the tech now. I will see how it is when I get it back.
I took the photos of the "Jimistrat" right after I stung it up, so I hope to get a little time on it this weekend, so I can see how it sounds.
