My New Buddy - Charvel

Well here is my Charvel (MIJ) in the process of rebuilding, however Im so excited with the tone I have to share it.

Im not sure if its just the guitar or the "Ping" Floyd Rose, this guitar has such great tone, even with the original old Jackson pickup I have. Just so 90's metal thru my rig.

I am still trying to figure out the wiring for HS & 5way and add the orther pickup which I have a original 87 S1 or a HS2

Just like the VBSl its hare to photograph the color

Congrats, I had an 80's model with the Kahler bridge on it. I still miss it

Im have not been a fan of the Kahler trems, my bother had it one of his guitars, and I never like it as much as the Floyd Rose style, it has discuraged some of my purchase of some guitars in the past.

The body's neck pocket says it a 3DR-6 (Predator) Perl Blue, which is based on the Japanese import model. Closest I found is the here..

3DR-6? I haven't heard of that one. Where did you find it?

The link to the Import Catalog was a disaster! Hehe...

Here we go...

How about putting a Telecaster chromed single coil? That would look cool and different at the same time. Nice looking axe man, don't do anything to it aside from changing the pups, I think it looks great.

Congrats!

Well I have been thinking of trying the Seymour Duncan pickups again, but at this time I'm also building another guitar, so funds are short till I get that done too, and so far I'm happy with the current bridge tone I have, but you never know... I will have to try some Charvels at a local store and see what I think again. I only have a old 21 or HS2 lying around to swap in but I will need to modify the pickup base since this is a straight slot.

Re: My New Buddy - Charvel

Wow that looks a LOT like one of Nuno's guitars. I wonder if he patterned his design for Washburn off of this. Nice.

I can't see the resemblance between this Charvel and any of Nuno's guitars...

Re: My New Buddy - Charvel

Charvel was never sold off by Jackson, production was just moved overseas when Jackson moved out of the San Dimas shop and into the bigger one in Ontario.
That looks like a 3DR with possibly a Warmoth neck. Nice score

Yes its a 3DR-6 (Predator).

The neck is a MIJ Jackson/Chavel Strat Head from a non-import model, its from my other Charvel, has skunk stripe and all; just I can not put a Floyd Rose on it because of how they routed for the pickups & where the old strat
trem is.

1985 Charvel starts plans on a Japanese guitar line.

With virtually every guitar leaving the Jackson Charvel Custom Shop a "one of a kind"custom ordered guitar. Grover wanted to mass produce certain popular models. Jackson Charvel merged with IMC(International Music Corp) and Charvel guitars were starting to be mass produced in Japan bearing the Ft. Worth Texas neck plate because this is where IMC was located. USA made Charvels had San Dimas neck plates up until 1986 and after that Ontario California neck plates were used. From 1984 until 1989 Grover spent a lot of time in Japan and Korea setting up production for guitars and parts.

Built overseas yes, but the firm was never sold. That was my point really.
