My new Despagni Jem

Hey everyone, I'm a relative newcomer to this site but thought you might be interested in seeing a couple pics of my Despagni Jem as it develops into a true work of art. As it stands, is all routed, put together and strung, but is still missing a bunch of cosmetic adornments (including a good sanding and...uh...PAINT) that Joe and I have spent hours on the phone concocting (that dude will talk about guitars forEVER... I for one find such activities to be a dreadfully frivolous waste of time ...cough cough).

I made a lot of silly demands during the design of this guitar, and Joe's been more than accommodating. I know a lot of his older designs (and future ones too, I'm sure) can get pretty outlandish, but the goal here is class, speed, quality. I haven't gotten my hands on it with strings yet, but Joe's been offered crazy amounts of money for it in its unsanded, unpainted, raw state by some SERIOUS players in his area.

Here are a few pics documenting the progress. I'll get on and post more as Mr. Despagni sends them my way.

Welcome to the site...

That looks like an undersized nut, it is intention such as to avoid string jumpoff? Why the 3-bolt neck?

I don't want to rain on your parade but i am compelled to tell you this....

Honestly, if anyone was offered "crazy amounts" of $$$ you should split it up, profit & move on. It's not like you can't build another. Good luck... glen

Re: My new Despagni Jem

Honestly, I'm not sure about the nut. That's one of those things I'm trusting to the master, but I'll ask him about it. And report back.

The three bolt neck is not what it seems. It's almost a combination of a bolt and set neck.

As far as selling it goes, this guitar has sentimental value for me, and I've waited a long time for it already. I have lots of gear that's worth more than I paid for it, and I won't part with that either.

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the welcome, Oscar!

There are a few oddities about the design, most notably, the cutaway armrest. This puts your hand RIGHT at the playing area, east access. Also, the body has been trimmed down to accommodate the 24.75" scale length.

The trem rout looks way bigger than the trem...and yea, the nut thing.

Interested about the cutaway armrest, could be cool

These guitars are interesting! For a while back I tried to by one of the older ones, but the seller got jumpy (I live in Finland and he in the States) and refused to sell it . If I could still find one for ~1k$ I'd be all over it!
Keep us posted, Brettski!

Re: My new Despagni Jem

The only thing I don't dig is the cut out pieces that looks like the guitar body and headstock are missing pieces of wood. Other that that it looks slick. Nice work.
