My Squier '51 Project
I bought this for $30.00 back in December '06. I sank about $110.00 into it.
It's a fun guitar now. It has a distinct voice and has found a place in the collection. My first mod-project too, so that was interesting. I feel it's $140 well spent!
Specs:
Mid '90s MIM Strat neck
Schaller Tuners
GFS scratchplate
GFS single coil and "Vintage '59" PAF
GFS C-21 bridge
Gibson-style p/u toggle
Before n After

Re: My Squier '51 Project
Cool! I dig the Squier 51, it's just begging for mods and you changed the shape of the guard exactly how I would have. The original guard looks a stupid shape near the
bridge pickup
. I agree with Dragster on the switch. Would be cool without the Rhythm / Treble plate. But otherwise, looks good.

The Rhthym/Treb plate could be removed but I kind of like it for now.

Re: My Squier '51 Project
Nice guitar, nice mods, well done!
I've always really dug the Squier '51's too. That new scratchplate improves it alot. Looks far better.

Re: My Squier '51 Project
Nice! Cheap Squiers and the like are a really good canvas for excellent personalisations. Every time I see stuff like this I really want to start messing around with my RG321...

Cool, then keep it that way. Looks kinda retro like that anyway. How does it play?

Re: My Squier '51 Project
It plays well. I sanded the tacky finish off the back of the neck which helped a lot. Doesn't play as smooth as my US Strat or Jem of course but it'll do. The old MIM neck I have on there is far better than the stock neck, for me anyway.
My goal was to not sink a lot of money into this but if I run across a deal on a better neck one day I might swap it out again.
