Need Advice on 12-string Electrics - Danelectro vs. Rickenba

Hi:

I'm in the market for a 12-string electric. I wish I could afford a Rick, but I can't right now. Still I would like to get that Rick 12 feel and sound for low money.

Has anybody played or owned a Danelectro? What are they like? Do those lipstick pickups have noise if I decide to overdrive them? Do they sound any good? Do they stay in tune?

Are there any other 12-string electrics, besides Fender, that are worth a look and how much are they going for?

Thanks

Robbie

I know you said no Fender, but I swear to God, the Fender Telecaster 12-string is SWEET! *You want an example, I've got a couple MP3s of one in use in a live situation run through a Matchless Cheiftan stack. *It's a sweet tone. *Otherwise, the Rick's good of course, and the Danelectro's (I've seen a double-neck used, very nice) also good. *They all have very different tones though. *I've heard them all run through the same amp (Matchless Cheiftan) by Jeff Martin of The Tea Party. *If you want something different, there's always the Epiphone Les Paul Classic 12-string. *But definitely, the Danelectro's something to look into. *When I saw the double-neck used, it was very overdriven. *It sounded great and stayed in tune. *I'm not sure about the prices on any of these though, sorry.

Need Advice on 12-string Electrics

Yamaha makes a 12-string electric Strat-style. * I'm not sure if it's been discontinued or not, but I think a couple of the large mail-order stores still have them. *It's around $400-500 I think. * Also, Carvin makes a 12-string solidbody electric as well as a semihollow 12-string electric with piezos. *I think they start around $800-900, and you can add whatever options you want from there. *Carvin does have some audio samples of the semihollow one on their website, but that area of the site isn't finished yet, so you need to know the 'secret' link to get there. *It is:

http://www.carvin.com/jamroom

Good luck!
