new buy... fender mij

just bought a fender mij, with a C (i think) serial number. Sunburst, mapel fretboard.. $960 AUD.... good buy? I think it's built in 2003 or 2004.

I've got a loaded jimmy vaughaun pups, might test them out as well when I get it... standard comes with the jap pups...

good buy? =)

i'll get pics when i get it soon... they gotta set it up.

Never played a newer Japanese Fender, but an early 90's model I played was really sweet. Everybody talks about how the newer MIM Fenders have improved dramatically, and they have, but they still aren't as nice as the MIJ's IMO.

Those JV pups are higher output tex mex models and sounds really good. Definitely swap those in!

MIJ Fenders come straight outof the Tokai factory, and they are nearly all excellent guitars - you pretty much can't go wrong!

MIJ Fenders are very nice, and pretty well built. They aren't the Americans, but they'll do.

The Tex Mex pickups are SWEET. Nice texas bite that does beautifully when rolled back. Some feel they're too bright, though; I disagree, I just think they're lacking a bit of low-end, which could probably be fixed with tweaking.

Re: new buy... fender mij

I thoght the Tokai and Japanese Fender guitars (as well as the Japanese Yamaha guitars) came out of Fuji Gen Gakki? They definitely did at one time. If it's still the case, they're being made in the same place and by the same folks doing the Ibanez Prestige work.
Anyway, the Japanese Fenders I've played are definitely nice guitars. I don't know about the price though, but the guitars themselves should be pretty sweet.

Some definitely came out of Fuji Gen - some people thought these were on par or even better than the American made products at the time (early/mid 90's if I recall correctly).

Re: new buy... fender mij

I have a MIj 1952 tele reissue which i think came with texas special pickups.. Not overly bothered what the P/ups were called though as they sound great and thats what counts!

I actually play mine more than my Jem FP lately, I got the action almost as low and am really digging the maple fretboard and the fixed bridge.. (think i need a PGM eh!)

The one thing i can say for MIJ fender is that from my experience the quality is outstanding and the american ones must be pretty damned awesome if they can top it (not having played the equivalent model us version).

The Mex strat my friend has plays like poo however..

Mine's also a Q serial number probably '04. any idea what the Q signifies>??
