New Custom Guitar - pics
Well, it's getting close to done. What's left: get the thin mappa burl veneer on, drill holes for the bridge/knobs/electronics, install em.
Just a note, the little triangle in the picture is a sample of what the mappa burl veneer will look like when clearcoated, and the piece of wood huggin the body is a sample of how the korina will look when clearcoated. Basically we're gonna leave a small frame around the edges of the carve top body (maybe a quarter of an inch, maybe half) and have that be korina, and the rest of the top is getting the mappa burl. Just a quick explanation, the lil triangle is what the mappa burl veneer top's gona look like (just a small sample), and the cut out piece huggin the body is what the korina body wood's gona look like once its clearcoated. Enjoy, here are the pics.

Re: New Custom Guitar - pics
Alrighty, just an update. Two weeks to go, decided on push-pull coil taps on the humbuckers, just need to get that top installed and then electronics/bridge/tuners. What do you guys think for knobs? I'm trying to decide between
chrome knobs
w/ abalone or green mirror tops (to match the inlay on the neck and/or headstock), or just natural wood knobs (either korina like the body, burl like the top, or maybe
flame maple
). Taking suggestions, por favor

Re: New Custom Guitar - pics
More pics
. Top is now installed, needs sanding and im gonna get a slight natural stain on it, and clearcoat. The color's gonna be different, everything will darken a tiny bit and the figuring is REALLY gonna pop out. It's comin' together though. Note the
cavity cover
in the back, cut out of the body itself and just put right back, perfectly matched grain. Should be done in a few days.

Re: New Custom Guitar - pics
It could be an optical illusion, but were the routes done with a handheld? the mid-pup route doesn't look 100%. It is still very cool looking though, and I hope to see more soon!
The cavity cover, how did you do that?

Re: New Custom Guitar - pics
Haha, it actually is an illusion, the guitar is a carve top and the lighting in his workshop isnt the best, the first pic i ever got of the body made it seem as if it was like twice as wide on one side than the other. I have a friend who's a luthier, he's building it, so I can only tell you that he cut the cavity cover directly out of the body, thats why the grain matches up so flawlessly. He's been building for 20+ years and is a total pro so I can assure you it's perfect lol. This should come out to be one hell of a guitar...
Dimarzio Air Norton
/ Cruiser / Evo 2 with coil tap,
sperzel locking tuners
and a tonepros string thru body bridge round this baby out. Can't wait. Thanks for your comment! Any other q's, feel free to ask.

Re: New Custom Guitar - pics
huh? Yes, this entire body was handmade, no CNC or any of that stuff. What's your point? And also, I didnt make it, I work with a luthier who builds my guitars.
