This will be an outrageous deep dragonburst finish, similar to the one Carvin offers:

That, but on a Les Paul shaped bod.

That's the same finish that's going on my current project. I didn't realize it was called a dragonburst though. Cool!

Awesome courtney, be sure to show me how it turns out! And I just called it dragonburst cuz thats what Carvin calls that finish option and I'm using it as a starting point. Ive seen similar stuff called "aqua burst" or "ocean burst" elsewhere.

Hmm now to decide on the neck woods...think I'm going with flame maple (stained to match the african mahog body) with a quilted dragonburst stripe in the middle (to match the top).

Ah thats what you meant - I like that finish - a lot of the dragonbursts on the Warmoth site go to an almost clear in the middle - I'm not a big fan of those. But if it turns out like that Carvin it'll be sweet. That guitar is definitely not going to be taking any prisoners.

I'm confused. You said "flame maple neck with a stripe of quilted maple in the middle (dragonburst as well)" Does that mean like a skunk stripe? And if the back of the neck is done in the same finish, will it show?

When you said dragonburst, I imagined something like a green edge fading to a yellow middle, I think Raven West does something like that and calls it lizard-something.

Anyway, sounds like a monster. I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

Not REALLY like a skunk stripe...it's hard to explain but I found a guitar online that has what i'm talking about:

Ignore everything here except the back of the neck, this is what i mean by a "stripe" in the middle. In MY case though, the neck wont all be the same color. The sides will be flame maple stained to match the african mahogany body wood (so the back of the guitar matches head to toe), and then the stripe will be quilted maple stained to match the dragonburst top (quilted maple top) on the front of the guitar, so there's a sorta continuity. And yes, my MS Paint skills are unmatched
