New Custom Project! Ridiculous woods inside!

Hi guys,

Starting up the next project. This baby is gonna be a 24 fret, 25.5 scale neck thru Les Paul style guitar with a crazy quilt top on an equally crazy ribbon mahogany body. The finish for the quilt top - Dragonburst!

Ebony fretboard, flame maple neck with a stripe of quilted maple in the middle (dragonburst as well), matching dragonburst quilted headstock veneer.

Tonepros string thru body bridge is planned, along with locking Sperzels and Duncan blackout pickups. So far I've picked up some of the wood, here it is!

The quilted maple top wood:

The ribbon mahogany body wood (sorry folks, lame quality pic here...it's a pic of a pic):

Will keep this thread updated with pics and news .

Haha well I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with binding, not sure what color though. I already have a guitar with white neck binding. Perhaps cream, cuz that looks great against african mahogany. Then again, in a few years the white will fade to "off white", aka cream. We shall see .

African mahogany is the body, I was talking about front body binding along with the neck binding . Fretboard is ebony.

And it will most definitely have inlays, I love inlay . Probably just a single classy one across the 11th to 14th frets. Either that or just abalone blocks.

Hi nice choice of wood, I love the quilted maple, I just wish I knew how to build guitars like some of you guys on this forum. Please keep us posted.

Regards and good luck as you work,

Haha thanks for the kind words, however I am but the designer of this custom to be built for me . I have neither the tools nor the space to do this myself lol.

Re: New Custom Project! Ridiculous woods inside!

Heh, i knew this thread would become a wall of suggestions. I don't really like honeyburst finishes, if I wanted a nice honeyburst finish on an LP I'd just buy an LP .

This will be an outrageous deep dragonburst finish, similar to the one Carvin offers:

That, but on a Les Paul shaped bod.

Are the Blackouts active or passive?

Actives in a LP is wrong imo.

Re: New Custom Project! Ridiculous woods inside!

They are actives. Look, I'm going to point something out here with all due respect. I didn't post this thread to hear people's opinions on active pickups in Les Paul-style guitars, or to hear what color binding they'd like me to put on it, or to hear what finish they'd like to see. I posted it to showcase the new project that will hopefully become a great custom guitar. It's my custom project, my design, and my money and therefore with all due respect it will be done my way. Suggestions are certainly welcomed, but not in the form of "don't do that! do this!".

It's not really an "LP", its just an LP body shape. If you notice the specs, pretty much EVERYTHING else about this guitar is different from a standard les paul - neck thru construction, fretboard, finish, scale length, # of frets, etc. This guitar is going to be an absolute metal beast, therefore I want Duncan Blackouts in it cuz to me they're a fantastic set of active pups geared at progressive metal/thrash/etc. If you think actives in an LP is wrong, you'd have to talk to Mr. Zakk Wylde. Or the dozens of other professionals and rock stars that use them (ESP makes several LP style models that come with EMGs, etc). If however you were meaning to say that active pups make for a non-standard Les Paul sound, that I can agree with and in fact is what I'm going for.

No disrespect meant at all though dude, I totally welcome any and all suggestions. It's not like every minute detail is 100% final yet.
