Re: New guitar day.....

Thanks

The S540LTD is the only one that compares. Even then, the S540LTD would need a nice fret level, crown, polish and fix up the fret ends a little.

Honestly, that's one of the reasons I bought it. It may sound crazy, but it plays more like the S540LTD than anything else I could find new. Or at least anything that was quality.

Anyway, it plays great. One of the best guitars I've ever played.

On another note, what do you think of the S2170F? I'm really thinking / hoping its gonna be my next guitar. That or a PGM.

Very cool guitar. I usually favor transparent tops with either quilt or flame maple underneath but that paint job rocks. I wish Jackson made a 22 fret H-S-H configuration and I'd be all over it...

It's alright. The best thing about it is the fret work and neck finish.

The neck is a Wizard II, but it is a differant shape then the Wizard II they put on the RG's. It's more of a U. It's actually kinda funky shaped. IMO

The neck pocket isn't cut deep enough on the new S series guitars.

See how much higher the fretboard sites above the body. Which in turn raises the pup and bridge hieght.

Long story short.....

The first one I ordered had a crooked trem and bridge pup. This one had the locknut screw and pad floating around in the case and the truss rod cover was cracked. It's rosewood.

No intonation setup and completely loose truss rod. The finish on the pup rings and knobs wears super easy. Though the first one didn't. In the end, it's part of the reason I didn't go with Ibanez this time.

Hope that helps.

Just get one of those humbuckers that fit in a single coil space.

Re: New guitar day.....

Thanks man....

I just searched for the best guitar for me. When double locking recessed trems are a requirement, the only trems I trust are the Edge, LoPro, Edge Pro, OFR, and ZR...gohto and schaller maybe. And while the ZR is cool, It's a little heavy and bulky. So then the choices become even less. Especially if you want something other than black. I like black, but it's too hard to keep it looking good.

I also wanted a guitar that I could intonate, set the action and truss rod and be done. No changing pickups, repainting, or fret level, crown, polish etc., etc.

The Jackson fit the bill. And the quality is great, at least on the USA guitars.

So I'm inclined to agree with Eggy. But that's just my opinion.
