I've really been wanting a Les Paul for a long time, but finding the "one" for the right price has been a hassle. For one, I wanted one made before they started heavily chambering the new Les Pauls, so this limited me to used or NOS. That, combined with the fact that Memphis has a poor choice of LPs used or new, made finding one difficult.
A few weeks ago, this one caught my eye on e-Bay for $1600. I'm usually hesitant to buy without playing first, but this one looked like a good one to take a chance on. It's a 2002 Standard with Heritage Cherry sunburst finish in great condition. I like a little flame, but too much evenly-matched bookmarked flame (or an extremely wavy quilt top) turns me off. This guitar is actually supposed to be a plain top, but it's good a really nice, subtle flame (and tinged of quilt) across the body. This can be seen really well when light is shined on it. It's a man's guitar and weighs 9lbs 10oz. This thing just SCREAMS. I'm really loving it. It makes my Ibanez sound so thin! I might replace the pickups eventually, but these Burstbucker Alnico Vs sound pretty good. I might also get an ABR bridge to replace the Nashville bridge too. For now, though, I love it!!!
