New Guitar: G&L

I'd been looking for a fixed bridge, alder bodied, fat strat for a while, but never found one that felt right, which is strange given that I like strats! I've also never been quite happy with the vol control on a strat being so close to the bridge. After much research I ordered this beast:

It is awesome. Simple, but great sounding. I've only gigged it once so far, but it will be coming with me to most gigs from now on I think.

I've seen a few crop up on the bay recently (without the Duncans or the coil tap) but if they are as good as this, and your in the market for a fat strat, go for it. For a quality US made instrument they are one hell of a bang for the buck too.

Any other G & L users out there?

Nice guitar! I used to own an ASAT Classic. I am actually looking for a G&L right now. I think I might get a Legacy. They are geat guitars. Congrats on the great axe!.......

Re: New Guitar: G&L

Thanks, I'll be checking out some of the other models too.

I'm not yet convinced about the neck pick up in this one; it is a SH-1 which I have liked in other guitars but it just doesn't seem to suit this one.

The build quality is flawless though.

It's an amazing looking guitar.

I noticed the headstock says invader on it, I thought all G&L Invaders had floyd roses?

Re: New Guitar: G&L

Great so long as you order a light one- mine's 9 pounds, same as my LP Custom! It's partly my fault I suppose, as I ordered it in translucent orange, so I guess it's made of a heavy ash. But even so, I never expected them to send me such a heavy Strat-type guitar. Anyway, I hardly ever use it, and it's going to my tech for a final attempt to get it singing like my other players (various Ibanez, a Wolfgang and a Steinberger). I'm not hopeful.

I also have a semi-hollow orange Asat Classic which is a way better sounding and playing guitar.

G&L is better than fender IMO. I've played an invader with a floyd and loved it any my dad has an asat with no f-holes and it plays really nice

It's beautiful. I've been lusting after the Rampage for years.

Re: New Guitar: G&L

mockjam, the rest of the range has a floyd, but the fixed bridge version is a fairly recent addition.

These do seem to be better built than the average fender, but G&L is still a relatively small company relying on their good reputation to survive.

Re: New Guitar: G&L

G&L guitars are definitely better than Fenders. They're still handmade and everything. That's how Leo wanted it to be before he died.

Beautiful guitar, BTW.^^

Re: New Guitar: G&L

I miss my G&L that I traded for Warwick thumb bass about a year ago. I called my buddy I traded with, and he hasn't played the guitar once. So we're traden back. I'll sure miss the bass though. But G&L's are as good as guitars can get.
