New Malmsteen Strat!

I just picked up a new Malmsteen strat I really was drawn to trying out the scalloped neck, I always thought it would be neat to try out. Well... at first I wasn't too excited about it, I had to have the brass nut taken down a ton and finally with some other minor adjustments it's much nicer to play! It took a little while getting used to the strings floating... but about three sittings I'm finally used to it and have to admit, I like it!

Onto the pics...

I really dig the looks... I just wish they had tinted the maple neck a little more 'vintage'.

Cool. I have a love/hate relationship with these guitars and have gone through many.
Enjoy it. They play and sound great.

Re: New Malmsteen Strat!

Nice. Now you gotta go get some 8 gauge strings and play with a really high action

Cool Yngwie axe, always wondered how such a neck would play. So the strings never tough the fretboard and you do bends etc floating?

Hey that's a beautiful guitar. I got one a few months ago and I think it is an amazing guitar. It just has a great sound plugged in or unplugged. The notes just sing. Came set up perfectly from the factory. Mine has the rosewood fretboard. Love it. Hope you enjoy playing that one for a long time.!!!! Nice pictures too.

I played one in the store and totally in love with it, if it were to have 24 frets and humbucker equipped I'd sell my jem away to get this one

I was reading somewhere that Malmsteen had his action super low for recording and high for live playing... I guess this would be good for pinch harmonics live? I always notice pinch and natural harmonics sound so much nicer with higher action.

It's weird at first. Even when you get the action where you want it, it's a 'mind over matter' thing... it seems the action is so high when it really isn't. Funny thing... the only big benefit of the scalloped neck is your bends... when you play a guitar that has jumbo frets, you don't ever really touch the fret board anyhow (unless your the Hulk), but when you bend there is some resistance on a normal fret board. With the scalloped neck it feels like your floating when your playing vibratos and bending, it's very cool!

That's a sweet one! I'd love to get the candy red with rosewood neck someday
