The finish on EBMM necks isn't bad though, my Bongo bass is also a great player and it's easy to go to it from anything else and not get the stickiness sometimes associated with finished necks. It's more of a satin finish.

EBMM guitars have unfinished necks...not satin finished. They're raw with a rub of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil and Gunstock Wax...the new JP proto has a mahogany neck w/ an acutual finish...it's gloss. Mahogany itself tends to like to be finished in that if it is raw and unsealed, it will deteriorate pretty quick...

My EBMMs all have satin finished necks. I don't have a Petrucci, so they may be different, but it's not a company wide rule. And I also have Carvins with tung oiled mahogany necks as well.

Re: New Petrucci EBMM, anyone got pics?

I have never understood why people get so worked up over a signature model. Regardless of manufacture, it is an artist model designed the way the artist wants it. Guitars are a highly individualized item; so it is ok to have an opinion about a certain model, but if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I read a few pages of that EBMM thread and the behavior of some of the members was just embarrassing. Can you imagine Steve Vai posting over here again and someone telling him that the JEM sucked or say telling someone like Leo Fender that the Stratocaster is a stupid design? I just don’t understand what it is about Internet forums that make people think they can have absolutely no class and think that is acceptable.

I think you mean the forearm cutaway on the body. The guys over at EB said they couldn't do it because of the thickness of the maple.

If you own an EBMM guitar....you do not have a satin finished neck. It's BC TruOil and wax. The SUBS and Bongo basses being the exception...so yeah, it's a rule. EBMM, as a rule, does not offer a satin finish on any neck. I've owned 6 of them in the last 3 years...and I've inquired as to why that's not an option. They've just told me they don't make them that way.

Pre-1991 or so EBMMs have satin finished necks. The Oil & Wax finish was adopted for the EVH sig. model and migrated to every other model in the range from there...

Very Very different actually, maybe you should look into guitars in more detail.

Re: New Petrucci EBMM, anyone got pics?

THE ARM CONTOUR: Definately interesting about it being gone in this new model. I wonder if it was just for cosmetic reasons so they could squeeze that quilt top on some other factor? (Kind of a substancial and unique feature to have to sacrifice just for cosmetic reasons)

Although I too was hooked on that arm countour the first time I tried it (sitting down in the store), I later found standing up with it was a far different story and my arm never centered where the contour wanted it to be. If I had wider shoulders, longer arms, or liked my guitar hiked way up into my rib cage, maybe, but to me it still seemed the whole coutour could have been rotated up 1-2 inches higher. Maybe Ernie Ball was finding out the countour just wasnt accomodating enough different preferences of strap length positions. Yeah, it may be made just for Petrucci, but in the end they do have sell these things to the rest of us afterall.

Did any one else find this a problem?

Re: New Petrucci EBMM, anyone got pics?

I was really looking forward to grabbing one of these new Petrucci guitars, i have his standard sig (which does have a matt finished neck, best feel ever!), but this has come a bit soon for my liking! I was hoping they'd wait until next summer before turning it into a consumer model.
