Re: New vs Old LP Weight relieving

The Reissues are still solid mahogany, since the mid 80s they've been relieved and chambered since 2007.

Gibson says there is no tonal difference, when I play my R7 I can feel the string vibration through the whole body of the guitar, definately more so than in my production LPs.

Wow....

I just don't get why Gibson thinks this is a good idea on a Les Paul. Why change something that has not needed improvement in over 40 years, and act like its not big deal.

The more I think about, the more I may sell my standard and just buy a used reissue.

Re: New vs Old LP Weight relieving

Simple, people cry that Les Pauls weigh too much so Gibson wants to cater to them. Have you ever checked out The Gear Page? Worst forum ever, but I've seen people there complain that they were promised the LP they ordered was 8.5 lbs because they made a special request for one under 9 lbs, then complain because on their scale it came to 9.4 lbs.

Re: New vs Old LP Weight relieving

That is hilarious, because I had an RG550 that weighed over 8 lbs. If you can't handle the weight, don't buy a Les Paul.
