Re: NGD: cheating on Ibanez ;) - EBMM Axis PBB
It does smack the body upon return from a dive, as I set it to sit directly on the body. I'm not manhandling the trem on my
Axis
as on my Ibbys
, however, and use it pretty gently. I am somewhat against the idea of putting foam underneath it as of yet, not sure if that dampens the sound or anything. But I could look into it, I have some suitable things lying around here.
Wonderful guitar, grows on me by the minute.

I think my Charvel VH has a rubber pad under the back of the trem plate to stop it hitting the body.... Just have to remember not to attempt trem flutters....

I could experiment with a few thin foam pads I have on the weekend. But frankly, I quite enjoy it the way it is - it's kinda like a hardtail with dive option that way
.

Why would anyone put a floyd rose on a guitar without a cavity?!? Doesn't make much sense to me...

Yeah it's like a car that only reverses. I'd say take a chisel to it and get that sucker floating!
But the top is very nice, deep blue matches well with the maple neck too.

Re: NGD: cheating on Ibanez ;) - EBMM Axis PBB
I never paid attention to this before, but there are quite a few brands out there that make guitars that are equipped with non-recessed Floyd bridges (i. e. Charvel). Although this does not make full use of the trem's features, it's actually not too bad of a thing.
I think having the bridge sit flush on the body adds a bit to the sound/sustain. All my other guitars have floating bridges, so this was quite a change. It allows for some interesting trem arm dipping licks with great pitch control, as it returns to absolute zero immediately. But again, it means action adjustments are not as straight-forward and requires a bit of experience. Once set up to preference, it almost feels like a hardtail with fine tuners.
I also wrote a review here on Jemsite about the entire guitar
here
. I'll try to get a few sound samples recorded in the next few days.

i was wondering, how do you lower the action if it's flush with the body?
also, i guess you don't need to worry about having the tension all right like on a floating bridge...you could just tighten it more and make it stiffer if you wanted because it would always just hit the body?
also, is it higher profile than a floating bridge? more uncomfortable?

I also mention that in the review - you have to shim the neck. Another way is to remove the shim plate under the trem, this gives you a bit of play.

Yes, no need to make it parallel, the body does that for you. The guitar comes with 2 springs pre-installed, 3 more are in the case. I just worry about the finish on the body if the trem puts too much pressure on the clear coat.

It feels the same as other Floyds, no issues there. The only slight issue is the rather exposed trem post on the bass side, which feels a bit weird for the picking hand at times.
