Re: NGD Gibson sg 61 reissue
Good work man,
Were you able to compare it to the Standard?
I'd leave the hardware just how it is. A Cherry 61 RI is on my to get list, then Im calling the Custom Shop for number 3
Here's my current one. I wish I never sold my Cherry one.

Re: NGD Gibson sg 61 reissue
I think you made the right choice man, the 61 RI is an awesome guitar.
The black was a guitar of the week back in 07. I was going to repaint it and I bought it for the gold hardware, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it black.
I almost got a cherry one earlier this week but one guy backed out of the trade and the other guy disappeared.

Re: NGD Gibson sg 61 reissue
Thats cool, too bad I havent worked in almost 2 months or I'd be all overthe cherry one. In about a year or two I'm going to get an SG Custom, if there isnt too much of an upcharge I'm going to have them leave the middle pickup out.
That's going to be the end of the collection.

You know I used to have a standard SG. It was a great guitar. It's neck was the same profile (it felt like) the '61 reissue. I thought the reissue was cool too. They seemed the same to me minus the different pickgard, but I didn't know all the details so I could be wrong. SGs are underestimated guitars for sure.

Re: NGD Gibson sg 61 reissue
I've read that some of the older Standards had the same or a very similar neck. The Standards that I played that wasn't the case. They weren't "unplayable" big, but they were completely different from the 61 RI. The neck front to back is thinner, and I could be wrong, but E-E feels wider. The other big difference is the neck joint. It joins the body at the 19th fret (if memory serves) on the Standard and the 21st fret on the 61 RI. If you look at Callens picture you can see it.

The standard I played was close to unplayable.

Yep that was a biggy for me too. Im watching a who concert right now and townshend is playing a classic that looks to be joined at the 19th also.

Re: NGD Gibson sg 61 reissue
Originally I bought mine mainly for slide so the extra fret access was a concern, but I ended up liking the guitar so much I used it for everything. I'm considering putting a hipshot trilogy bridge on there now. Then I can have Open D, Open G and Standard tuning whenever I want.
