NGD! KL-style Explorer! (moderate-sized pics inside)

My KL-style explorer has arrived!! Mahogany body and neck with a bubinga top. I need to get the hardware for it (pups, tuners, bridge, and guts/electronics) but it's finally here. Here come the pics!

All black hardware, tune-o-matic bridge, some locking tuners, and still deciding on pickups. Parts will be ordered shortly, completed pics in a few days. Can't wait!

BTW, is anybody on here knowledgeable about GFS pickups? I hear their crunchy rails and power rails are fantastic, and half the price of Dimarzios. I was debating giving them a shot.

Thanks dude! It's "Camatillo", which is apparently some variety of rosewood. This is gonna be my first time trying stainless steel frets, we'll see how that goes

Wow that thing is over the top. Tell us more about it. Who made it?
GFS pickups are alright. Personally I would go with used Dimarzio's but yeah GFS makes a good pickup for the money.

Thanks man. Private luthier here in the US. He doesnt have a website from what I know but I would assume one is in the works. I love dimarzios personally but I don't like buying pickups used, and I feel I wanna try something different. A lot of people have recommended the GFS pickups, sayin' they give a really great variety of tone and sound fantastic coil-tapped (which is the plan for this guitar). I considered EMGs to really Hetfield this thing, but I dont like how EMG humbuckers sound clean.

Yeah, so I hear man. These are taller than the frets I am used to so it'll take a lil getting used to, but I'm sure it will be ok.

WOW!!! That thing is beautiful!!

Congrats, and yeah, EMGs would look killer in it, but if you dont like the sound, whats the point...

Maybe a JB/59 Duncan set? they will sound massive with all that mahogany... that or Gibson pups...

Dont dismiss the "used pups" idea, ive bought lots here on this forum and never had a problem

Yah, I know man but something about the idea of used pickups kind of bothers me, haha. I was considering some duncans but I do want something very high output. GFS Crunchy Rails and Power Rails are apparently a very good match for mahogany, I think I might try em out and see what I think. And thank you for the kind words

I've tried those as well and they're pretty good. I think I'm going to take a chance on the GFS ones though, they have fantastic ratings and the price is pretty attractive as well.
