NGD - PRS SE Fredrik Akesson
I've been GASing for a SE Akesson model for many months, being the huge Opeth fan that I am. I happened to stumble across a guitar shop (Wild West Guitars in Riverside CA) about 30 miles from my house, it was in an industrial type of building, which was pretty intimidating looking when I first walked in. The front door was locked, but I saw a doorbell and rang it. The door opens and inside was a receptionist. She asked if I needed help. I said "uh, I want to look at some guitars". She directed me to a hallway and then paged a guy (Doug) to meet me. This was no Guitar Center, not really even a mom-n-pop place. There were hallways lined with guitars on the walls and amps on the floors, as well as rooms filled with guitars & amps. I was awe as I walked around, it felt like I was in someone's private guitar vault. I saw a lot of very pricey PRS's hanging around. Well, lo-and-behold they had that Akesson model. It's mine now!

sounds like an interesting buying experience...and you came out of it with a beautiful new guitar! I've always loved the birds in flight inlays on the PRS guitars...I really like that finish too...that is a really nice guitar - congrats man!!!

Re: NGD - PRS SE Fredrik Akesson
I've actually purchased a couple guitars from those guys though their ebay store. Very nice folks, and if I'm not mistaken the owner of the shop is one of the guys from the band Warrant.
Happy NGD. Those SEs are really cool guitars, especially for the money. I've played a couple, and have been very impressed by their fit and finish.
Oh - and yes, Opeth rules!

The body is a full 2" thick. It weighs 7 lbs. - 10 oz. That's just 2 oz. heavier than my Ibanez RG570 and 540R.

Congrat on the new guitar. How do you like the small scale compare to the 25.5?

I like it. I have pretty small hands, so it suits me just fine. Coming from playing Ibanez Wizard necks, I thought the thicker neck on the PRS would be tough on my small hands, but it's been fine too. The width of the neck is just about the same as the Wizard necks. I wish the neck was slightly narrower, which would make a difference in my pinky's ability to reach the E string!
