NGD: USA Washburn Mercury MG100

Pics eventually:

1994:

Swamp Ash, maple neck, rosewood board, 22 frets, Wilkinson VS100 floating trem, Seymour Duncan SSL 5 (middle and neck), and JB in bridge.

Didn't want to post til I knew the model. I'll brag (hopefully right to do it) that I got it for $179... still had the original retail price sticker from 94: $1,199.25!

It's in timewarp condition!

Pics soon.

Re: NGD: USA Washburn Mercury MG100

Forgot to mention the thing that makes this so interesting to me- this was from the era when Washburn invited Grover Jackson to head up their production. Super quality in every detail... very buttery to play. It's great for someone like me to likes something more rockin' than a strat but more vintage-y than a double-locking superstrat. The Wilkinson bridge is wonderful- very smooth and musical, lots of mass so I don't feel I'm losing anything tonally. A beautiful beast.

Re: NGD: USA Washburn Mercury MG100

Thanks. It's got a really different feel from any I've played (Fender Ibby or otherwise) and I LOVE the neck. That's definitely my favorite feature. The Seymour Duncan SSL-5's are the perfect balance of vintage and modern. I was afraid it wouldn't be able to do a real Strat sound but it REALLY does... but the single coils will wail when needed too. The only weak spot is the in-between sound in position 4, where you're hearing the middle single and the one coil from the JB. Not a great sound, but then I've never heard a great split sound from splitting a humbucker.

I think I'll have this one awhile!
