Non Ibanez Guitars - What else do you like?
I love my Jem like no other guitar, but I still
like to collect and play others.
I just picked up a
peavey wolfgang
, and next on my wishlist are a gibson lp classic and a fender
american deluxe fat strat.
What non-
ibanez guitars
is everyone else interested in
picking up?

I've got 2 ESPs that I really like, they feel "tighter" that my JEMs. *That's the only word I can think of to describe them. *My ESP str*t feels better than any F*ender I've tried.

Utopia--
If you're a collector, I can't say for sure what you'd want to pick up. *But as a player I can say the best Strat I've ever played was the Big Apple. *The coolest guitar I own besides my (on the way) Jem7BSB is a Hamer Californian. *It's a really neat guitar--all
flame maple
with 1 DiMarzio humbucker and one DiMarzio single coil and a Schaller Floyd-style trem. *I have only seen a couple of other ones, and I love mine to death.
As far as what I want, I'm still keeping my eyes open for a BC Rich Gunslinger. *They're kind of like the Baretta, only the headstock is reversed and I like the body style a bit better. *I still dig the 80's and 90' heavy metal, and I always thought a 1-
humbucker guitar
with a Floyd on it just screamed. *

I like the old Ernie Ball VH guitar (now the Axis),
Gibson Les Pauls
and
Fender strats
. I'm also still a bit of a Jackson fan. I still can't quite seem to shake my love for them. The Soloist is a great sounding and playing instrument.

I love my AM100 (small-bodied ES-335-alike) and FG100 (think L5), but if I have to choose a "Non Ibanez" guitar, my
Alvarez Summit
is
IT!!

I like high end Jacksons as well -- the goal is pretty similar to Ibanez -- hum equipped power axes...but Jackson has some nice feeling necks that arent rediculously thin. *I like Gibsons too...I've had pretty bad experences with LTD although ESP is probably a totally different story. *Ibanez still tops them all...but the best kept secret are the 80's Aria Pro II guitars. *They are selling dirt cheap now, anywhere from $150-250, and they feel GREAT. *On my Aria Pro II ZZ Deluxe, a friend of fine put down his G&L to give the aria a whirl and ended up hating me because he said my guitar was so easy to play, it was cheating. *Mine lacks 24 frets and a floating bridge, although a Jem7VWH will soon will that gap.
Also, the Aria stock pickups sound very good -- I think they're DiMarzio clones or something of that sort. *Also, proper setup is EVERYTHING on any guitar!
Current wishlist guitars:
Jem BFP
RG 170 (stick a set of 13 guage flatwounds and you have the ULTIMATE ptractive guitar in the RG170.)
RG 570
Jackson KE-2
Gibson SG
Squier Affinity Tele/Strat (good smash guitars?)

There are very guitars that I would take in absence of Ibanez. Tom Anderson and Jackson are the 2 biggest that come to mind. I don't like the feel of Jacksons though. TA's are too pricey. And neither of them have the Edge trems!

I'm a sucker for Kramer Nightswans and ProAxes.
Nightswans are amazing - les paul scale, mahogany, reverse hockey stick headstock. *Weird-ass dot inlay. And a unique dual humbucker arrangement at the bridge and middle. *Too bad so many of them came in cruddy polka dot and lightning graphics.
ProAxes are more rare, and they're essentially what became ESP's M-II (i think they were made in the same Japanese factory?). *A lot of latter-day Kramer designs became ESP designs somehow.
I also recommend Japanese custom shop strats like the
Richie Kotzen
guitars. *There's all kinds of cool stuff going on over at Fender Japan - like a Malmsteen double neck!
I've also really dug Robin guitars, Tom Anderson and
Brian Moore
.

Currently I'm obsessed with an ES-335... I'll get one soon... very soon!
And, besides my UV7BK I do own a
Les Paul Classic
with a dream top, and an old
Squier strat
(my first electric) now loaded with Fralins (superb sound), which I like very much. Then I have some project guitars (3 in fact), which are not worth to mention.
Cheers!

I have an absolute passion for EB/MM EVHs or Axis guitars...I personally think that they are excellent...I often find myself just cruising around the web looking at pics of them thru **** or whatever. Yeah maybe I should go get some help, but when you stumble on a Trans Blue EVH...it's all worth it!
Another one is those Tom Andersons!!! Woohooo, Hook me up with a 6 string drop top and I'll sustain for years! Beauties! I love looking at PRSs' too, but I have never played one...they're really beautiful...
I love blue guitars! Especially those Blue guitars in Chinery's collection...in particular the Bendetto one!!
ES335? I just tried out one the other day, flamed like a forest fire!
Beautiful guitar
with a tone to match.
Chris.

I've wanted a
Jackson Soloist
forever. Not a new one, but one of the old "
Grover Jackson
San Dimas" ones. And it's gotta be white, just like the one I saw Doug Aldrich play years ago in some tiny club in L.A.

My Favorite Non Ibanez guitars that I want to own:
Fender Telecaster
. No specific year just want one. I just picked up an old 1960's Guyatone copy but I want the real thing. Since I have the copy maybe a thinline Tele if I get a real Fender!
Peavey Wolfgang! Okay I already have a
Wolfgang Special
(Vintage Gold) which I love because of it's simple design and the drop d-tuna trem. Plus I haven't felt a more comfortable neck on anything else I've ever touched!! *
Electric/Acoustic no specific brand in mind yet. Maybe a Carvin like Steve uses. Or maybe a Yamaha or Takamini (sorry if I spelled wrong)
Of course I want to own another JEM!!!! I'm thinking a Floral this time or maybe if I'm lucky the old JEM 77GMC!

Although I sold it to buy a USRG30, the Jackson
Phil Collen
guitars are SWEET. *Next time though, I will buy the PC1 instead of a PC3. *The neck shape on the PC models is way different than the Soloists or Dinkies. *(better IMHO)
Fender Strats are nice, but I am picky about the finish on the necks/fingerboards.
For shredders, I really like some of the old BC Rich necks that I have come into contact with recently. *The LA
Custom shop
necks or nicely shaped and have an oil finish that makes them feel really nice... *

I'm pretty sure that Phil Collen had Jackson model his new signature model after some of his Tom Anderson guitars.
I remember reading an interview with him a few years ago, and he was saying his wife gave him a Tom Anderson as a gift, and he'd never played a better guitar. (This was after he'd already been endorsing Jackson for a few years.)
I kinda like the older Jackson Collen model... the really
swoopy-looking
one.
I'd take a Tom Anderson in a heartbeat... Hollow Drop Top in
Tiger Eye Burst
, please!
Rudy Pensa
,
John Suhr
and
Schecter
are also making similar "boutique" super-Strats that are probably right up there with Andersons, too. Jackson's limited
San Dimas
series were really sweet, too.
Of course, i'm still enamoured with my
Parker Fly Classic
(i have a thing for blue guitars, too, Christopher!)

warmregards,
LTDs are Korean, like low end Ibzs. *Comparing LTDs to ESPs is like comparing an RG-4XX or below to a JEM. *The ESPs I've played are great, I still want a
George Lynch Serpent
.
