Now this is just plain insulting...

http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp...re-Guitar.html

I can't believe they're releasing a Billie Joe Armstrong model. I mean it would be alright if it was at least unique in a way, but there isn't anything different than a regular LP Jr (apart from the 'specially woud' pickup).. This is worse than the Tom Delonge model, which was basically an ES-333 minus one pickup and a 'radical' finish.Oh well, guess which guitar we teens will be clamouring over...

Re: Now this is just plain insulting...

I dont see whats so insulting about it.. People endorse and have signature models everyday. Is it insulting that Vai or Satch, Petrucci, SRV, Eric Johnson, Etc have signature models?

Whats the big deal.. Cause hes not a super solo guitarist he shouldnt have one?

No, it's just that I don't see why Gibson would want churn out something that they already have in the first place. Actaully, I don't think 'insulting' is the right word here but 'ridiculous'. At least Green Day fans will be over the moon about it (and I don't mean that in an offensive manner).

But, I'd of thought his signature axe was really a Strat copy, no?

I know he's been using Gibson since their new mainstream fame, but for me I'll always think of him as a strat player.

I'll never think of hims as a guitar player. This is just as bad as if they gave Ashley Simpson a signature guitar.

Re: Now this is just plain insulting...

haha these threads crack me up, just like the nickelback one..

People were musicians, and as musicians like him or not he has churned out more hits then everyone in this thread on his first cd. He has written many hit songs, they have a successful band,

But were the first to complain and dog on the other guy..

Its silly, just cause you dont like it, doesnt mean its bad. If you cant say anything nice about them, then dont say anything at all. Unless you got a better cd, wrote more hit songs, or performed in a better band.

Its like being a minority, instead of defending your own group you turn around and bring them down.

So what hes got a signature guitar, if you dont like it thats fine, but to say he doesnt deserve it is wrong, hes payed his dues, 3-4 chords or not. Life isnt always about technical playing or guitar masterbation. I betcha most of you got "Dookie" in your cd collection or at least liked a song of it.

Musicians should support other musicians not be jealous and arrogant. And I would say 75% of musicians would rather say "he sucks" or "Im better than he is" then to say Kudos to so and so, he deserves it.

If "Insert your favorite guitar maker here" came and wanted to make a "Insert your screen name here" Signature model you would be all over it.. And dont say you wouldnt.. So what have you done to deserve it? How many CDs have you put out? How many #1 Singles?

If you cant answer it then shut up.

Re: Now this is just plain insulting...

I thought the original poster thought it was stupid because its basically just a LP Jr. with a different pickup. There isn't really anything else different than a 50's reissue Jr.

Usually the sig guitars have a few things that makes them unique (shape, electronics, pickups, inlays, colors...), and worth getting. He didn't really say anything about him "deserving" it.

Re: Now this is just plain insulting...

Hahaha, some of you guys dont get it.

Vai and Satch didn't get signatures because Ibanez said "Wow! yer FRACKING AMAZING, you really DESERVE THIS being the fretboard masters that you are!!" NO! Its be cause they are hugely inspirational to other guitarists and other guitarists look up to them, and WILL buy their signature guitar if its offered.

A signature guitar is about 1 thing:

Mmm. . . piles of cash. For both the endorsed artist and the company endorsing. The artist gets a bunch of free guitars out of the deal, suited to his specs, so that the artist doesn't have to spend his own. . .well. . .look at the picture above.

And that being said. . . guess what band is HUGELY marketable right now? Guess what guitarist of said band is Mr. Hunk among confused pre-teens?

Thats right!. . . Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.

Gibson will always cater to pop music, its just their style. They ARE Gibson, and for them to stay in the limelight as the premiere guitar manufacturer of America, to keep up with the whole "GIBSON MARSHALL! ROCK AND RULL!!!" thing, they must stay in the publics eye, and the way to do that is though pop music, get seen on stage with hit bands. Its probably one of the most genious marketing strategies ever, and Gibson started it all with the signature Les Paul . . brilliant! And it WORKS. The kids watch MTV, see their favorite band playing a GIBSON!! WOW! all of a sudden, affulent middle class American parents are being hit up like the hot chick at the bar by their kids for $2000 to buy "Teh COOOLEST GUITAR EVER BECAUSE BILLIE JOE PLAYS IT AND HE IS LIEK OMG HEART SEXY!!!"

Re: Now this is just plain insulting...

Billy joe's head is bigger than the rest of his body, but I would rather my 12 yr old daughter be in love with him and not Usher or the Pimp street mafia or whatever. At least he plays the guitar.

A signature model guitar doesn't have to be radically different unless the guitar that the player uses is radically different. What I hate is when a signature guitar is not what the player actually uses. Why don't they put the correct bridge on the JS1000/1200? BJ Armstrong is more of a song writer than a guitarist, but at lt least his signature model is same as what he plays (at least right now.)

What about EVH and the EBMM? And now he's back to endorsing some crappy Charvel? Didn't he used to play kramer? And wasn't his first guitar used on thier first album was a fender strat with the pickguard carved out for a humbucker. Nothing more. Eruption, anyone?
