Obscure Guitars You Love

I don't know why, but I've always liked the looks of the late '80s Fenders that didn't last long, like the Performer, or that funky shaped one that kinda looked like a V without the bottom horns. I dunno. Anyone else have any old rare barely heard of guitars they still love?

does the Ibanez 440 Power with HSS pickups and a 5-way selector count? My friend owned one years ago and that's the only one I've ever seen besides the picture of another one on the web.

It has an awesome neck and really a tight little body. To bad I don't talk to him now or I'd try to buy it off him.

Yuriy Guitars, built by a guy called Yuriy Shishkov. His site's been down since forever, but they were amazing jazz-boxes and solidbodies with a baroque, Gothic twist. He's since worked as a Master Builder for Fender and Washburn, but I wish I could find some decent pictures of a Yuriy Angel...

I don't know why, but I dig the Gittler.
Maybe it's the skeleton-type looks, or the non-tone that comes from having no wood present, but....
Maybe it's that I recently saw Andy Summers playing one in an old Police video (Synchronicity II) and it made me like them all over again.
Maybe I'm just a freak.

Soon after that Police video, I saw an Adrian Belew vid (too much VH1 Classic for me. LOL). It was for his song, "Oh Daddy Daddy". Cool tune, very Top 40-ish considering the writer. I think his daughter is in the video too. Anyway....he's got a 5 (or 6) neck guitar much like Rick Neilsen's monstrosity. For some reason, multi-necked instruments tent my pants. No, I don't play well enough to even own a mono-necked instrument; it's just some sort of fascination deep within my brain.
One day I *will* learn "The Final Countdown" keyboard rhythm parts on the top neck and the keyboard lead parts on the lower neck of my JEM77FP-DN...and play them at the same time. Stanley Jordan eat your heart out! LMAO.
I said "one day"; not "today". :-)

...and I'll always be a sucker for the Performance Flame guitars.
Always.

good one! I just figured 'Jump' using two handed tapping (well, the lower chords are easy.....final countdown should be a lot harder). I'm dying to go try a Roland equipped RG and try it. Might as well.......do it this week!

and back on the topic subject.....I don't know how obscure they are, but I love EVERY lawsuit Ibanez

Man, if you could only get it to hang with both necks sitting straight up into the air, you could tap on both necks easier.

Caprile- I'm not sure if you understood this, so I'll draw a quick map. :-)

JEM77FP-DN= Double Neck Floral Pattern Jem.
You can find some pics here: http://www.projectguitar.com/gal/2b.htm

I'd play the rhythm keyboard parts on the 12-string top neck (hammering on). I'd play the lead keyboard parts on the 6-string neck (hammering on). Playing them in time with the song won't be easy, but I'm determined to *one day* get it down good enough to make John Norum say, "Hey- not bad!". :-P

I still have trouble tying my shoes, so once I work up my coordination...LOL

Both miss and loved my 1983 Fender Tele Elite.
Had that great, glassy, bell like tone in dual single-coil mode, and then got thick and powerful in dual humbucker mode. Each pickup had independent volume and tone controls, which was great. Also, instead of coil taps for the 2 humbuckers, there was a knob that would 'blend' the sound- at 0, the pickups were in single-coil mode, at 10 they were in humbucker mode... very very cool feature. I picked it up mint for $280 in 1994 and sold it for $320 in 1997 (actually, traded it toward a Fender Twin). Now they're going for a lot more, damnit.

I understood (yeah like I have never drooled looking at your DN...or the J's for that matter). I don't have a DN, but a 7 covers it. strings D to high E for right hand keyboard part, lower 3 for left hand keyboard part, both tapped.

something like this:

Right hand tapping: (the last chord is a bitch!)
e---------------------------------------------------
b-15--17--13--13--15--15--17--13--10---8---8
G-16--17--14--14--16--16--17--14--10---9---7-
D-17--17--15--15--17--17--17--15--10--10--10-
A---------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------
B---------------------------------------------------

Left Hand Tapping:

e---------------------------------------------------
b---------------------------------------------------
G---------------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------------
A-3--------------------------------------------------
E-3--------------------------------------------------
B-1--------------------------------------------------

Two notes:
-I'm sure the left hand part is wrong. Suggestions gladly accepted.
-I'm not trying to teach VH to Mr. Kevan5150, just demonstrating my point

I just remembered the name of that old Fender, it's the "Katana". I just love how it, and the "Performer" look. I don't know why. And there was an old Ibanez too, an XV...something. It looked cool too.

I like alot of older obscure guitars. Hagstrom, Kingston,Vox, Aria, etc....
These guitars may not always sound or play great, but they are very unique, and sometimes offer very cool tones that can't be duplicated by anything I have heard today.

There is a "katana" in a pawnshop here. It's been there forever.

The XV500. Ah yes. I have one of those. The pink and purple one. Great sounding guitar. Too bad one of the saddles broke on the trem and I can't find a replacement part.
