Off on a GAS building Mission Today!

I'm heading down to Sounds Great in Cheadle today to have a look at a couple of Suhrs (under the pretext of buying some strings).

This is the one I've got my eye on - it's on my shortlist of JEM/MM JP/Caparison of some sort -

I'm getting married in December so need to get that all paid for first, but I've told the missus that I get this since she got a big diamond engagement ring!

One thing that worries me is once I've seen it in the flesh I might not be able to resist another grand and a bit for this beauty -

Well you're going to the right place for a GAS exercise. Plenty of exotic bits of wood at Sounds Great Music. I bought a Caparison from them back in January. The 2 guitars you are looking at are gorgeous, nice choice to have to make. I've been eyeing that Suhr Purple Nova they have in as well.

I've never managed to get to grips with the lop-sided shape of a Suhr Modern

There's usually lots of fun things at sounds great so enjoy your mission.

I got my Suhr from Sounds Great. Cool shop

The 09 limited would be better if it had a Floyd

Hope you got a discount - they forgot to fit the 24th fret markers

Only joking - can't wait for the pics.

Here's teh pics -

The finish is really difficult to get a sense of in pics - it's almost like a fabric, it marks from nearly any contact with picks or fingernails but rubs out easy too.

Everything about the guitar is perfect so far, I'm well chuffed. Will do a proper review when i get half an hour!

Same. I don't like the boring generic headstock shape either It's a shame, they sound good...

Re: Off on a GAS building Mission Today!

Glad you got a suhr and kept the caparison on the wish list haha, not at all a fan of their work, although I love the 4+2 headstock style they've got going on. I played the guitar you purchased as well as the LE modern carvetop 2009 this past week while putzing around at a shop in my area. Absolutely fell in love with the modern, I don't think I've ever seen a guitar finished so beautifully. I don't think I've ever seen a case so nice either for that matter. But I think you made the right choice, it just isn't worth the extra 1500 bucks for aesthetics, especially if you expect to make it to the altar in one piece for your wedding, haha.

Yep, it certainly has got a nice case (which smells great too btw).

Luckly I have a very understanding missus (one of the reasons I am marrying her!!)
