Old Jackson...What is it?

I don't know much about this guitar other than this...
It's a star shape
It has a pointy headstock
It has real Seymour Duncans, looks like Invader / Jazz but there are no labels...
Has a Floyd, but I don't know what model, and I don't know how to work this particular model...
Headstock has no name but I am almost sure it is either a Jackson or Charvel.
It is probably from the 80s, MAYBE 90s...

Looks a little like those old Carvins, sure it's a Jackson?

Well I know it's not a Carvin. On the carvins, the long tail is on the bottom...Good guess though, I thought the same at first hehe.

This is the Carvin

I can say with almost no question in my mind, that it's an old Charvel.

Back in the 80's, Jackson and Charvel were pretty much the same company.

It might even be an ESP, though.

Re: Old Jackson...What is it?

My dad got it as payment for attorney work and gave it to me when I started as a long term project guitar. He didn't ask much about it, but the guy who gave it to him said it had previously belonged to someone from Megadeth (didn't say in particular, but I'm guessing he meant Mustaine) and when my dad got it, it had a Megadeth sticker on it (blue, RiP era)

I'm betting whoever told your dad that was lying. That just sounds like a bold faced lie to me. It sounds like something my "know-it-all" friend would say about his crappy Predator.

You could probably contact Mustaine and confirm that it did belong to somebody in Megadeth, though.

I'm a huge Megadeth fan, so you'd never catch me getting rid of that guitar. But if you were to sell it, and it did belong to one of them, I'd imagine it would fetch a pretty penny.

Re: Old Jackson...What is it?

Yea It's probably a lie, but there may be a shred of truth in it. After all, it would fit the characteristics of Mustaine or maybe Friedman before he got really into the Kelly shape...I can only hope now.

Anyone have any hints as to what model # this may be?

Re: Old Jackson...What is it?

Doesn't look like any old Jackson or Charvel Star I've ever seen. And I never recalled seeing anyone from Megadeth playing one of these. That's no Floyd, even an early. My guess is that it's just another 80s knockoff, and someone ASSUMED that since it had a Megadeth sticker on it, that must be the band that owned it.

It definitely says "Floyd Rose" on the trem, but it looks fixed, but it also has a trem block and springs...

I'll take more pictures tomorrow...

You're right. Now that I look at it, it's too pointy to be a Charvel.
