Opinion on Suhr guitars?
I was on their website and was blown away by the look of some of their guitars. Just wondering on how they play. I tend to play a lot of technical stuff and generally like a guitar whose neck feels good for flying all over the fretboard. I also like a guitar that makes for very fluid bending and vibrato. SOmetimes I feel like my Ibanez guitars are a little stiff with bends (even with lite 9 strings)
thanks,
brian

Re: Opinion on Suhr guitars?
Suhr guitars are one of the best guitars you can have. Amazing playability, looks and sounds.
I've been playing guitars for 20 years now and owned every major guitar brand and a few more, but still.. nothing beats my Suhr in playability and sound.
I highly recommend them. I can get Jazz, blues, country, pop, rock and even metal sounds with my Suhr.
And it looks cool too! Here are a few pics of my baby:
If you can, try one out. You won't be dissapointed and these guitars are worth every penny.

Re: Opinion on Suhr guitars?
I like Suhrs a lot, I don't think that the ones I've tried (and I've tried a fair few) play as well as my favourite Ibanez guitars.
BUT I will say that there's less variation between the Suhrs I've tried they're all amazing, whereas it's taken me years to find a handful of "ultimate Ibanez" if you know what I mean.

Re: Opinion on Suhr guitars?
I've played a few and own 1 (at the moment
) IMHO they are not only fantastic looking guitars - they have the best maple tops of any manufacturer, they sound great, feel great, and have the highest build quality.
Save you pennies up you won't be disappointed

Re: Opinion on Suhr guitars?
Yestreday was the first time I looked into Suhr. I couldn't beleive it when I saw the guitars on this page:
http://www.suhrguitars.com/exotics.aspx
But I think $7000 ballpark is a little too much. So I think I will save up for oe of these types:
http://www.suhrguitars.com/carvetop.aspx
http://www.suhrguitars.com/modern.aspx
http://www.suhrguitars.com/standard.aspx
I just don't know what the difference is among these as far as wood, playability, etc.
thanks,
brian

You can choose you own type of wood, necktype, model, hardware and finishing when you order a Suhr.
The Suhr Standard, Carvetop and a Modern are all different type of bodies.
Don't forget that $ 7000,- is a list price. They don't go for that much.
Cheers, Sam

Re: Opinion on Suhr guitars?
Just played one yesterday. Was pretty and played well, as expected. But didn't blow me away. Just felt like a good guitar. Certainly not worth the $2300 unless It was really a guitar I wanted. It didn't play $2000 better than my $300 RG570.
I suspect it's like any high end guitar. You buy it because you want a high end guitar. The justification is, "I want it". Will you write better songs, or play better sounding melodies on it? Nah. But it's fun to own a piece of art work. No doubt.

A great instrument can inspire to write more, better songs.
Also a Suhr will sound a lot better than a RG 570.

Not true
Sound is so subjective that this is just too much of a generalisation.

Sam,
I think the $7K ones are just the "exotics"; since they are one-off "art guitars" from Suhr they might go for pretty close to that list.
I've had one Suhr come through the house, back then (2003) most dealers were going about 25% off of list, if that helps anyone.
It was a fine guitar, but ultimately the neck shape I had ordered (Standard Vintage "C" [.810" to .930" with an 11"-14" compound radius) wasn't for me. I found that another company's neck shape is perfect for me, but still entertain thoughts of sending my guitar off and having John clone the neck and put it on a Suhr Classic.
