Opinions: Gibson Les Paul

Okay, so I've decided I'm going to go the Les Paul route for the vintage vibe and feel, plus I'm going with the Les Paul Supreme for tone, plus I love the look. I'm thinking Gibson Les Paul Supreme in Transparent Amber.

Thoughts?

Les Paul Supreme = Not the "traditional" Gibson tone. It has a chambered body. They are great guitars but I would be sure to A/B it against a few others before I bought one.

Cid's gonna hate me for saying this, but if you are looking at spending that kind of money, I'd recommend you look at the PRS Singlecuts as well - if you want true vintage vibe, also have a good look around at the CS Reissues - they ocasionally do a colour called "Lemondrop" which is like a totally faded sunburst - gorgeous! The '59 Reissue is just a phenomenally good guitar if you find the right one

I went though several Les Pauls before I found my standard. Definitely try out several before deciding on the one that is right for you.

Re: Opinions: Gibson Les Paul

Don't roast me for saying this but, I will eventually buy an Epi Custom LP in white and change the pups and hardware to satisfy the LP desire for me and save a bundle in the process.

For now I just ordered the ESP EC-1000 to satisfy my LP "style" urge and I mean literally "just ordered". I might drop the EMGs out and add the JB/Jazz or JB/'59 SD sets to it, we'll see how I like the actives first.

Just remember that the Epi hardware is metric and the Gibson hardware isnt.
You may have problems swapping it out. RS Kits has a nice wiring upgrade kid that will give you a better jack, pickup selector, pots, wire and caps. I have one in my LP Classic and one in my Tele. THey are nice kits but pricey.

Re: Opinions: Gibson Les Paul

Thanks for the heads up Cid, I didn't realize that. I would want a tone pros bridge if it fit.

The only Gibson I'll own is another Explorer this year in white with an ebony fretboard.

CoBL

Gibson did a Supreme Guitar of The Week that you may still be able to find.
It was done in a finish called Autumn Sunburst, I think and if I remember right it had no inlays. It looked awesome.

Re: Opinions: Gibson Les Paul

I have owned two and sold both of them when times got tight. They were both wicked axes and worked great for playing in a southern rock/classic rock band.

I've had two black ones and two natural ones and sold all of them but I will surely buy the white one when I finish paying off my 3 RG20ths and buy my new Mesa Express. A nice Taylor 315ce is on my list somewhere in the mix as well

Re: Opinions: Gibson Les Paul

I had a Gothic Explorer, I'd love to have another one, if only it didnt have such a lame ass name like "Gothic". I also wouldnt mind getting my hands on one of the Explorer Pros in trans black from a couple of years back

Re: Opinions: Gibson Les Paul

my fave LP is the classics. i like the 60s necks way better than the 50s necks. i would already have one of those BFGs if it had a 60s neck.
