Excellent choice, and you must have good luck, because that was the one I wanted, but I was told that I would not be guaranteed the top (quilt or flame), it would just be whatever showed up. Not my cup of tea.

Definitely post pics and tell us what you think.

Re: petrucci f1-thoughts?

Sorry,no pictures.I returned it.A nice looking guitar for sure. The neck is thin, almost a wizard.Much thinner than the regular petrucci. The fretwire was the dealbreaker.Vintage-very small fretwire, which I don't mind too much,if it was taller.Bending strings on this guitar was pretty challenging.Great for super fast scale runs.I see why petrucci likes it.I bend very much in my style,so it doesn't suit me at all.I picked up a regular petrucci in its place(plus some major cash). If the bfr had taller fretwire it would have occupied a place among my favorites.I picked up a pearl redburst fully loaded to help with the withdrawal process.

John showed me his BFR's backstage at the Myrtle Beach G3 and I tried a couple of them. I commented on the size of the necks and he said thought the same thing initially, but said they are the same size as his other JPMs. He thought it just might be the finished neck that gives the illusion, but they should be the same size. I tried his 6 and 7. I like the blackburst/quilted maple top finish the best.

Wow, that's pretty thin, because I already think the neck on the regular Petrucci is a little too thin for me.

Re: petrucci f1-thoughts?

Maybe it is an illusion because of the finish. It sure seemed thinner.Even the regular petrucci feels small.I would have to say I like the unfinished neck a little better. The black quilt was sure stunning though. Its a pretty easy transition going from an ibanez to a jp.A little different, but not uncomfortable.I like the contoured armrest.I'll have to put in some time with my gear and tweak some presets. Not 100% sold on the dsonic in this guitar.I will give it a fair try before switching. My ears seem to change on a daily basis!
