Pickup Recos - early 90s Ibanez S540 - What do you have in y

Hey there folks! *I'm likely going to be trading my RG7620 for a near mint '91 S540LTD. *It's got the stock IBZ pups in it . . . what do you guys think of those pickups?

Also, if you've replaced the stock pups, what did you choose. *I'm assuming that the thin mahogany body has very different tonal qualities than a basswood *RG or Jem (that's what I normally play). *Any good pickup recos for the S? *Good experiences? *Bad experiences? *Thanks gang *

I'd recommend a Dimarzio X2N in the neck and in the bridge. More power all the way around. *

Pickup Recos - early 90s Ibanez S540

I used to have one till my school in UK bought it off me. I kept the pups stock and they were very good. But they later changed the bridge to ToneZone, and that ruined everything... the tone of the tonezone was non-existant in there...

TZ sounded great in the bridge of mine ('90 S540FM). *Wood's all different...

I'd leave the others stock (they're good pups), unless you need the neck 'bucker sound. *Then a Duncan little 59 or DiMarzio cool rail at the neck. *Or, you COULD rout the hole. *I did that - and put an IBZUSA F1 in there. *Sounds great. *But that was in '91. *With the pups available now, I wouldn't have done that.

Pickup Recos - early 90s Ibanez S540

I recently had a look at the older S540 with the stock qms pickups and they seemed fine, but a lot of people complained bout the bridge humbucker..... But i believe that it is only the case on the newer S540's from late 90's. Apparently the Ibanez USA pickups they had on the older ones have a pretty good opinion...

I love the IBZ/USA pickups in my RG770 so if those are what comesin your S540 I'd leave them be for a while, I get a great Van-Halen/Extreme sort of tone out of that axe

Thanks for all the advice guys. *I've heard good things about the early 90s IBZ pups . . . looks like more of the same here.

I'll certainly leave it alone for a while. *Just wanted to get an idea of what I'll be in for . . . it's nice to know that I won't have to run out and get new pups right away *

Thanks again!
