+1.

But get Ovation USA.

Even the least expensive USA model (Balladeer) is MUCH better quality than the korean ones.

And it's not too much either. And I'd say 95% of all Ovation acoustics have pre-amps in them.

Re: Please help - best electro-acoustic guitar

In early 2006 I got completely blindsided by my Martin HD-28v. It was rediculous, because I shelled out almost $3k for an acoustic guitar when I wasn't looking for one, and hadn't even considered the notion of buying one. I just had to have it. It called to me. I went back to the store and played it like 5 times. I played the exact same model in 3 other shops.. it was just one in particular that called to me, and I absolutely couldn't resist. I even tried the $7000 version to see if it was $4k better. Nope.

Hell it had a ding in the soundboard and I bought it anyway.

I highly recommend trying a few. Some of them are magic, and without a doubt the best $$ you will ever spend on an acoustic.

I have my own that called to me more than others.

I chose my own D-18 over a D-18V, a D-28V, and an HD-28. It just sang like no other.

Taylor. Either one of their full-bodied acoustics with electronics or one of their T5 models, depending on your needs (i.e., a majority of unplugged vs. electrified operation).

What is "affordable" for you?
I bought a wife a 15 series Martin that is incredible and lists around $1000, I have a Standard Martin that lists at $2800 that I absolutely love (and Yes, it is $1800 better). it has a piezzo pickup and a mic in the soundhole and you can blend it anyway you want and it sounds incredible unplugged. I've heard good things about Taylors too. The teacher I used to go to loved Alvarez acoustics, but I dont know enough about them to tell you if the make electric/acoustics or not, but her's sounded great. I would avoid Ovations like the plague, unless you want a plastic acoustic. Then by all mean buy one.
Can you get Seagulls in Poland? If so check those out.

Trust me..."plastic acoustic" is the term for those who've never played one before and are too plagued by bias to give them a fair shot (or HAVE played one before but were too biased and looked at the back instead of listened to how it sounded and how well it played). It's actually a composite material that sounds very good plugged or unplugged.

I don't own one myself but they're impressive guitars, and their high end Adamas carbon fiber line even more so.

OH SNAP!! I actually had an Ovation Elite with the sound hole on the shoulders, for years, thanks for playing though. I wouldn't give my Martin for it on my worst day.

OH SNAP!!!1111ONEONE!! I wouldn't give my Martin for an Elite either but that doesn't make it a bad sounding "plastic guitar". Making blanket statements like that over an entire brand because you like your Martin better is just all in all silly.

I've played my fair share of not so great Gibsons, Jacksons, Ibanez's, Ovations, Martin's, Taylor's...

And none of them are bad brands that make all bad guitars.

Sorry man, she asked for opinions and I gave one. I wouldnt buy a plastic guitar for anything, it just doesnt sound as good (Again see the "opinion" thing) as real wood.

Re: Please help - best electro-acoustic guitar

Thanks for the calm reply, but just for future reference saying you simply don't care for Ovations and saying you'd avoid them like the plague because they're just plastic guitars...are two pretty different statements in terms of tone.

You don't have to like them, but please just don't go putting down the whole brand as inferior plastic guitars...that's all I ask.

Re: Please help - best electro-acoustic guitar

My acoustic is an '84 Ovation Custom Legend, and it sounds great plugged in. When I first got my guitar, it had cracks in the top, and the truss rod was broken. I sent it in to Ovation, and they replaced the top (we're talking 300+ pieces of binding here), took off the fretboard and replaced the trussrod, did a complete crown and polish on the frets, and sent her back to me for $300 bucks. A luthier would have charged twice that at a minimum, if you could get someone to replace the top, and I wasn't the original owner either! It's a great and very responsive guitar, and Ovation is a fantastic company.

Re: Please help - best electro-acoustic guitar

I personally own an Ovation Elite and I have been quite happy with it. The guitar wants to be played ad is extremely comfortable to play as well. I neglected it for years and left it in a bedroom in my parent's house through weather changes (mind you it was kept on a stand and not in a case because I never got one with it), so after years of not playing , I decided to bring it to my house and give it a better treatment. Needless to say, the guitar sounds and plays as amazing as the day I bought it.

maybe it's just me but i read "ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC" and not "ACOUSTIC-ELECTRO".
i think clarification is in order here.

and just to keep with this website theme (if it is A-E guitars) i would say the Ibanez EP9 or check out Alvarez. they make some serious affordable guitars that have a great bang for the buck ratio.
