I want to have a sense before I go to a guitar store.

Re: price of a PRS custom24?
Depends on what options you want. Typical Custom 24's (10 top, bird inlays) sell for around $2500 new. Gold hardware & artist packages increase the price,
dot inlays
and non-10 tops decrease the price.
Used Custom 24's w/ 10 tops, bird inlays typically go for $1500-$1700, depending on condition of course.

Re: price of a PRS custom24?
Pretty sure one with no ten-top and dot (moon) inlays is about $2000 new.
When I was shopping for used PRS's, it always seemed like there were plenty of less-than-ten-tops with dot inlays available. I'll admit, though, when looking at new PRS's it seems like the majority (on display, at least) are 10 tops with birds.

Re: price of a PRS custom24?
Don't know why I forgot to mention it yesterday, but you also might want to check out the Standard 24's. They are exactly the same as Custom 24's but with no maple top (solid
mahogany body
). They're typically ~$300 less than the most inexpensive Custom 24's, and it's generally easier to find a Standard with dot inlays than a Custom.
I have several Custom 24's and one Standard 24, and they really do feel exactly the same. The Standard has a little darker of a tone due to the lack of maple, but I'd say it's an equally good tone, just different.

good advice,
I just saw a standard24 20th anni model in a local store. Love it.
let me ask you something, of custom24 and standard 24, which has a more natural strat like tone?

Re: price of a PRS custom24?
youre not gonna get a PURE
strat tone
out of a PRS just because of the woods and pickups. the single coil sounds sound good, but it really couldnt be farther from a 'strat' sound.

Hmmm... I wouldn't say either is particularly strat-like, due to the fact that from a construction perspective they're both everything that a strat isn't (humbuckers vs single coils, mahogany vs alder, set neck vs bolt on, etc). That said, between the two, the Custom 24 would probably be a better choice, since the maple top would make the tone a little brighter and potentially more strat-like in the split positions (let me put it this way... funk sounds better on my Custom 24 than my Standard 24).
In all honesty, though, if you're looking for a PRS with strat-like tones, your best bets are either the
Swamp Ash Special
or finding an old EG. While they've got humbuckers, they're both 3-pickup guitars (H/S/H for
Swamp Ash
Specials and some EG's, H/S/S or S/S/S for other EG's), have similar body woods to strats (alder for EG's, swamp ash special should be pretty obvious), and have bolt-on construction. Tonally, they'll be closer to a strat than any of the Standards/Customs.

Re: price of a PRS custom24?
^^ I prefer maple tops too, but it's all preferance! If you want a strat like tone, get a strat. But the maple tone will add in some punch to it to sound more like a
maple neck
strat.
