PRS, Ok let's hack one up. - seriously.....:)

Ok well I've been thinking of getting a PRS 24 Standard. all mohogany with no flame top.

One with a trem on it.

Now here is where the hacking up comes into play.
I want to put a Wilkinson trem with the fishman piezo saddels on it, but I also want to route a trem cavity for the bridge.
I was also thinking of possibly putting a tamer version of the EB/MM JPM forearm cut-out on the guitar too.
and schaller locking tuners in gold. with the bridge gold as well.

then I was going to put a Steve Morse switching system in with 2 hums and 2 single coils, if they will fit, but the single coils will be a sustainer (if it can work in this position) and or 2 mini buckers.

with a million and one switches.

What do you folks think of this monstorsity?

I would go forward with extreme caution. *What you have proposed will transform the PRS into something with an unbelievably low resale value. *Taking a high priced guitar that plays like a middle of the road strat is a great idea, just beware that what you're doing could affect the resale value of such a coffee table guitar.

Just build a Warmoth PRS clone, with the features you want. Same quality of wood, cheaper price, less work. Just my opinion, but that's what I'd do.

I'm not too concerned about resale value, since I still have almost every guitar I've ever purchased.

I'm looking for versatility in a PRS type guitar.

and as for building a warmoth style, It's still not the same because of the 24 fret issue, they don't build necks with the same features as the PRS neck.

I'll think about it. since It probably will never happen

I'd be more inclined to hack up a cheap PRS copy, rather than the real thing. I couldn't bring myself to hack into a massively expensive instrument like that.

The arm access thing-y will really mess with your flame-top. *Other than that, sounds cool. *But I think the sustainer needs the neck position due to the harmonic mode. *But I could be wrong.

Darren, I too am Inclined to hack up something like that instead of a real PRS, I just kind of thre the idea out there though, It's probably never going to happen.

I was just at songbird music on saturday, those Dillions are pretty nifty, but to me still not worth 700$.

and when it comes to a guitar It has to be as versatile as possible just MHO though.
And I think your right Two Hands about the sustainer, so axe that idea...

Samick makes great looking PRS clones, you may want to check them out. I think the quality may be better than a Dillion.

The Dillion PRS clones are actually really good... the earlier ones with the bird inlays and PRS ripoff headstock are apparently quite sought after. I played one of the hollowbody models with the revised headstock and inlays and was quite impressed with the build quailty and tone for a relatively inexpensive guitar. CAD$700 might be a bit high, but it's pretty decent. I've also been tempted to get a Santana SE, because the ones i've played have been really impressive in terms of build quality. If only they had an arched top instead of the flat top.

But i think i'm going to resist the impulse for now and maybe save up for the real thing. Hopefully by the time i've got the money for one, the big PRS trend will have died off and the market will be flooded with affordable used PRSes.

I think you should get a PRS and hack it up, then smash the sh!t out of it. I did that with my first Les Paul. Dragged in behind me from the car and whatnot...
