Question about Washburn N4

Quick question. Why do some N4's locking nut go right through the neck and other N4's dont?

Don't know if this difference only appears between older N4's and newer, so wild guess I'm throwing in: The first x 1000's (in 1992-93 if I'm correct) were made by the Stephens-team themselves and have, besides other differences, different hardware.

Some older N4s had Kahler systems, too, so there are other differences besides the nut.

The early N4s that used the Kahler system have the nut attached through the neck. The later models all used the Schaller which does not.
