Ran guitars, seem to be a good deal!

http://www.ranguitars.com

I sent'em a custom shop form and asked for a longer neck scale, special orange finish, total binding everywhere lol, and some more stuff
they answered it'd cost me... 890 euros!

lol...for the price that's pretty hard to beat..

Ran is a Polish company that generally had good reviews, although i read a single rant about the quality of their standard models...The main man behind the company seems to have been building guitars for Vader's frontman for a while now...

I assume your talking about Peter, yep indeed!

what do you mean by "although I read a single rant about the quality of their standard models..." does that mean that its "safer" to get a custom model?

I'm not saying that neccesarily, but I'm just suggesting that if you have a custom model made, you should probably expect higher quality than if you're getting one that's been hanging in the store.

I sent them an order form as i was ineterested in some prices and i got this.

> =right handed
> body_shape=Vision
> construction=all access neck joint
> body_material=mahogany
> flamed_maple_top=yes
> pickups_neck=hum
> pickups_middle=N/A
> pickups_bridge=hum
> finish=black see-thru
> headstock_shape=Vision
> neck_material=maple
> reverse=yes
> headstock_finish=black
> neck_finish=satin
> fingerboard=rosewood
> number_of_frets=24
> fret_size=medium
> inlays=dots
> fingerboard_end=square
> nut=graphite
> width=1 5/8''
> hardware_color=black
> bridge_system=Schaller Fixed Bridge
> tuning_machines=Schaller M6
> pickups=EMG
> pickups_neck=EMG 85
> pickups_middle=N/A
> pickups_bridge=EMG 81

730 euros.
Works out to about £508 (give or take abit)

I personally dont think its very bad at all. £500 for a custom made, maple toped guitar, with EMG's, sounds quite nice to me. If only they made an RG shape though :/

I believe you can specifiy "other" for the body shape

anyways here were the options I asked for:

> R_or_L_handed=right handed
> body_shape=Invader
> construction=all access neck joint
> body_material=alder
> flamed_maple_top=no
> binding_top=no
> binding_back=yes
> binding_color=white
> pickups_neck=SC
> pickups_middle=N/A
> pickups_bridge=hum
> finish=deep orange (can provide pic)
> headstock_shape=Invader
> neck_material=maple
> reverse=no
> headstock_finish=match body finish
> neck_finish=satin
> fingerboard=rosewood
> number_of_frets=24
> fret_size=extra jumbo
> inlays=sharkfins
> fingerboard_end=square
> fingerboard_binding=yes
> headstock_binding=yes
> binding_color=white
> nut=graphite
> width=1 5/8''
> hardware_color=black
> bridge_system=Schaller Fixed Bridge
> tuning_machines=Schaller locked
> pickups=EMG
> pickups_neck=EMG SA
> pickups_middle=N/A
> pickups_bridge=EMG 85
> control_pattern=3-way blade switch (NOT toggle): bridge, bridge split +
neck, neck
> (placed where the volume knob normally is)
> I can provide a picture showing where I want the knobs and selector to be.
> additional=longer neck scale: 668mm
> neck width at nut: 43mm, at 21st fret: 56mm
> thickness at first fret: 19mm, at 12th fret: 21mm
> fingerboard radius: 430mmR
