Review: OLP Axis Copy
First off I have to say Im typically one of the most skeptical people around when it comes to guitars, especially ones in this price range. I was fortunate enough to get to play one of each color (like that matters). My fave definitely being the purple flame, anyway on to the good stuff. Plugged in the ones I was playing had a nice smooth action with no dead notes. I really kind of dug the smallish frets. I would imagine most would be turned off by that but it just seemed to fit the feel. The necks definitely close to being shaped like the Axis/Evh Musicman. THe purple one I played had a nice flamed out neck that the others did not. The finish seemed to be where things slipped through. considering in the price range its in though, its definitely top notch. Plugged into a JCM 2000 Tsl 100, the tone was actually really good. The pickups were surprisingly voiced well, and the guitar had tons of sustain to boot. The trem of course (as can be expected) is the common six screw variety, and stays in tune like a drunken Frank Sinatra. The tuners didnt feel too good, but overall you could play hard on it and the guitar stayed in tune really well, equally as good as an american strat in my opinion. THe electronics are plain and simple. One knob, one switch, and thats all she wrote. My other guitarist picked up one in amber, and Im going back to get the purple one. For the price I have to say, it is "definitely" worth it. If they put a chrome flush mount floyd on these they would put nameless companys out of business. All in all a good guitar for beginners and a great backup guitar/player beater
