SC420 -or- SCA220 -or- SA160? - Looking for just a fun simpl

I am looking for a simple new guitar to do:

1) *Drop D tunings
2) *No fancy whammy bar stuff (got a UV7BK for that)

Other options might be Peavey's EVH or a used Gibson Les Paul. *Of course I need to find a place to try all these out. *Any opinions or comments?

SC420 -or- SCA220 -or- SA160?

I have the SC420, and I am getting the RG421. Both are great for drop tunings, however I am thinking the RG421, with a slightly longer scale, will have a little less flop in Drop D.

SC420 -or- SCA220 -or- SA160?

The S-Classic is one of my favorite guitars that I don't own (yet). I'm getting one real soon.

SC420 -or- SCA220 -or- SA160?

I got a SC620 for drop D and as a backup to my Radius.

Turns out I'm ALWAYS playing the 620! *It's just so lively & responsive...

The AANJ isn't as stable as I'd like, but I checked out the 420 at my local store & it's a little mobile also. *The price you pay for thin body & easy access - I'll live with it!

One other thing that wasn't mentioned on the other 620 vs. 420 thread - my ('98?) 620 neck is quartersawn maple, and the 420 at the store was flatsawn. *Is that a difference in the model or the year?

Is the SC620 still in production? *I can't find one online anywhere... *I'll try to find the thread you mentioned to read about comparisons.

No, you can only get one imported from Ishibashi (or whatever his name is) or maybe from Rich.

I noticed no big feel or sound difference between my 620 and the 420; I like the 420 too. *And some people don't care about the neck wood cut. *Some do.

SC420 -or- SCA220 -or- SA160?

the 620 later turned to the Prestige model 1620, then this year it was discontinued in the US.

The 420, which is Japanese made, and the Korean SCA220 are still in the US.

My sister-in-law has the SCA220, and it is a great guitar, even though its Korean.
I really can't tell that much of a difference. But she may have gotten a good one.
