Second Guitar to Compliment My Jem7V?

I have a Jem7v which I love but I have recently been thinking about picking up a second guitar to compliment its tones.

I'm thinking mahogany with duncans because I'm looking to capture deeper richer tones and to play metal riffs but also handle blues cleans.

I boiled it all down to Schecter C-1 Blackjack and ESP Horizon II NT.

Both are mahogany body with maple top. Both have Duncan JB/59 pups.

The ESP is about $1399 and the Schecter runs only $549!! BUT, I have been reading of a pattern of Schecters falling apart after a few years of play ("pickups fall in" and "input jack and nut comes loose").

hmmmmmm ....

Anyway, what I am asking is what do you think best compliments the JEM7V in order to cover the spectrum of styles and tones?

Thoughts?

RGA121 is mahog/maple with fixed bridge, arched top, diff pickup combo.. could compliment nicely

Brett Garsed likes the ESP Horizon a lot, it looks pretty cool. can't go too far wrong there

All depends on your budget

But to listen to the rubbish in the quote above is no good
Pickups falling in and a jack nut coming loose are something that is REALLY minor and would/could be remedied when you had your guitar set up.

If people start saying the finish fell off or the neck warped or frets fell out - thats something to Worry about.....

Re: Second Guitar to Compliment My Jem7V?

Yes, the C-1 Custom has the neck-thru which is nice. I guess it's a question of do I want to spend more money for that over the Blackjack AND change the pups too (more money) just to get a neck-thru vs a set neck.

... perhaps, gotta think about that some and also play both first before I decide. But a good idea.

Re: Second Guitar to Compliment My Jem7V?

I hear you ibanezking. It's just that it bothers me a bit when I see so many reports of these little things happening with the Schecters because it makes me think the big things are much more likely to happen with them too.

Still, the price is right.

My budget is really unlimited so I didn't mean to imply that the two choices I mentioned were the limit. I'm looking for great tones, but I won't overpay for them. I'm leaning towards the ESP because I've owned one before (KH-2) and it was a quality instrument. I just didn't dig the EMGs for cleans.
